Patient documents in NextGen® Enterprise EHR can be a medical or lab report, a referral form, a professional letter, or any other custom-designed form.
You can generate new patient documents from previously created user-defined format documents in the Document Builder. When a patient document is generated, macros in format documents insert data from selected template fields. A patient document can be created locally or remotely on a remote workstation. The patient documents are attached to the applicable encounter in the patient's chart.
The patient's chart may also contain documents created outside Document Builder. Third-party documents are imported through the NextGen® Interface Engine Document Import Agent. NextGen® Health Information Exchange (HIE) and Continuity-of-Care (CCD) documents are attached to the NextGen® HIE Documents Category of the Categories tab.
After generating a new patient document, you can sign off on it in the Documents module or the Provider Approval Queue (PAQ).
You can specify the viewer to open a patient document. You can print or fax the document and view its properties and permissions from the viewer. You can archive each patient document and revert to previously archived versions with NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
For NextGen® PxP Portal enrolled patients, you can export the documents attached to the encounters to their portal accounts. Patient documents can be stored in a local document path, in multiple storage locations, or as binary large objects (BLOBs).
