Document Type Viewers

NextGen® Enterprise EHR provides the following three document viewers for use with different document formats. You can specify document viewers under NextGen® Enterprise EHR Documents Preferences. Your system administrator can help you determine which viewers are appropriate for your practice.

Viewer	Format Supported	Description
TX Text	.doc .docx .rtf .txt	TX Text is the default viewer for all patient documents. It is also the default viewer for documents in Rich Text Format (RTF) and plain text format that are attached to patient encounters/categories in NextGen® Enterprise EHR through the Document Monitor utility. Note: NextGen® Healthcare recommends using the TX Text viewer for all supported document formats. The ability to insert addendums and lab results in a patient document is available with this viewer only.
Word Application	.doc .docx .hed .rtf .txt	Note: To use this viewer, you must have Microsoft® Word installed and the Browse in the same window option enabled in Microsoft® Windows®. This option does not appear if Microsoft® Word is not installed. Support of Microsoft® Word as a viewer is dependent on functionality provided by the Microsoft® Corporation. Some versions of Microsoft® Word may not support embedding within a third-party application such as NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Feature support within Microsoft® Word is determined by the Microsoft® Corporation. Removal of specific features in versions of Microsoft® Word can result in altered or lost document content. CAUTION: The following NextGen® Enterprise EHR features are not supported (or are partially supported) in the Word Application viewer: Document signoff (run-time electronic signature for documents approved in PAQ) Read-only functionality (documents that were signed off and "locked") NextGen® Enterprise EHR right-click menu (standard Microsoft® Word right-click menu is available instead) Export of patient documents Insert patient images Insert lab results (not supported) Features supported by Microsoft® Word that are not supported by NextGen® Enterprise EHR include but are not limited to the following: Negative indent Extending items outside of the Header bounds (availability may vary based on specific Microsoft® Word version) XML Tags (partial support - NextGen® Enterprise EHR removes the XML tags, but the text is displayed in TX Text document viewer) Check box, drop-down list, and edit fields (partial support - NextGen® Enterprise EHR removes the controls, but the text is displayed in the TX Text document viewer)
