Document Type Viewers

NextGen® Enterprise EHR provides the following three document viewers for use with different document formats. You can specify document viewers under NextGen® Enterprise EHR Documents Preferences. Your system administrator can help you determine which viewers are appropriate for your practice. Viewer Format Supported Description TX Text .doc .docx .rtf .txt TX Text is the default viewer for all patient documents. It is also the default viewer for documents in Rich Text Format (RTF) and plain text format that are attached to patient encounters/categories in NextGen® Enterprise EHR through the Document Monitor utility. Note: NextGen® Healthcare recommends using the TX Text viewer for all supported document formats. The ability to insert addendums and lab results in a patient document is available with this viewer only. Print Patient Documents

You can print one or more documents that you have generated. In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, generate a new patient document, or open an existing patient document. If desired, preview the patient document before you print it. From the Menu bar, select File > Print, or select the Print icon on the Document bar in the viewer. If you have not previously saved your document, the Save Document window opens. Select OK. The Print window opens. Select the desired printer. To print a group of patient documents, use the Custom Print\Fax function in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select OK to print your document. Fix Document Margins

Do one of the following: Accept the suggested values. Enter your own values. Enter over the displayed value, or select a new value. To view the document with revised margins in the Preview pane, select Apply to Preview. To apply the new margin settings, select OK. To continue without changing the margin settings, select Cancel. Patient Document Generation

You can generate patient documents in NextGen® Enterprise EHR on the workstation you are logged on to or offline on a remote workstation. Before generating a particular document, make sure that you have selected a patient. Also you can check that all the relevant data is entered into the patient medical record. You can select options to save or print a patient document or send it to a patient account on NextGen® PxP Portal website when it is generated. You can create documents in two other ways: A template may be configured with a Launch Document trigger that you can execute to generate a document. Use NextGen® Enterprise EHR Quick View feature to generate a document in real time as you work on a patient encounter. You can then save and attach the document to the patient chart. Set up Documents Preferences

You can set up documents preferences for: Viewers by document type A default generator and a default printer for documents launched from a template trigger and generated offline using the Document Queue utility Checking spelling in documents (TX Text viewer only) Default layout view of TX Text documents Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select Tools and select Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Documents tab. Set up the applicable preferences in each section. To save preferences, perform one of the following: Select OK to save the preferences and close the window. Select Apply if you want to continue setting other user preferences on tabs in the window. Attach Addendums to Patient Document

Before you begin To use addendums, the following settings are required in the System Administrator application: The Save As RTF Universal Preference must be set to False. Under Operations Rights / EHR Documents/Add Document Addendums, your user Access Rights must be set to Yes. The TX Text viewer enables you to attach an addendum to a signed-off patient document, if you have permission to do so. You can attach multiple addendums to a single patient document. The addendum feature is not available in the HighEdit or Word Application viewer. Note: You can attach an addendum to a third-party patient document after you sign off on it. If an update is received for the patient document, and document archiving is enabled, the updated document is sent to the NextGen® Clinical Message Manager. The update does not automatically overwrite the original document and any attached addendum.
