Managing Medications

You can document the dispensing and administration details of ordered medications on the MICS Med Management template. You can use the MICS Med Management template to document the dispensing and administration details of medications that are ordered from the Medications module and Office Procedures core template. You can also waste medications, and keep a track of medications that are prescribed and filled in-house. Before you start documenting the details in the Medication Management panel, you must enter the specialty in the Specialty field. After you enter the specialty, the selected value is defaulted in the Specialty field on the following templates of the NextGen® Medication Inventory Control, and the Specialty field becomes read-only. Documenting Injections and Aspirations

You can document joint injections and aspirations for a patient. On the MICS Injections/Aspirations template, you can document joint injection or aspiration procedures for a patient encounter. You can use the fields appearing above the Procedure Type panels to add the preliminary details for documenting injection and aspiration procedures. The Procedure Type panels have the procedure type automatically selected as injection or aspiration based on the configuration in the Injections & Aspirations Provider Panel Defaults panel of the Admin Configuration template. To change the current procedure type, you can click the procedure type link in the panel name. You can document the following details in the Procedure Type panel. Documenting Dispensed Medications

You can document medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the MICS Dispensing template to document billable and non-billable medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient. The medications grid at the top of the template displays all medications that are documented on the MICS Dispensing template as dispensed to the patient. The following table describes the panels on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the fields appearing above and below the panels to document general information for the dispensed medications. Panel Description Medication Dispensing You can use this panel to document medications that are dispensed to the patient when the administration is not needed. You can also use this panel to waste a medication. Ordering and Administering Immunizations

You can order vaccines, and document immunization information on the MICS Immunizations template. On the MICS Immunizations template, you can use the links and fields appearing above the Immunization Ordering panel to document the preliminary details for ordering and administering vaccines. The first three icons in the QuickPick toolbar are disabled on the MICS Immunizations template, and you can only use the remaining functions in the QuickPick toolbar. Documenting Eye Injections

You can document procedure and medication information for eye injection procedures in the OD Injection and OS Injection panels on the MICS MedAdmin OPH template. You can document the medication information for up to two medications for an eye injection. You can also document patient's response for the documented injection in the Patient Response section. Document Procedure Information for Eye Injections You can manually document procedure information for an eye injection or using a Quickpick. Documenting Medication Information for Eye Injections You can document up to four medications being administered with an injection procedure. Document Eye Injections Using QuickPicks You can document procedure and medication details for eye injections using QuickPicks that you built and saved previously. Adding General Information for Eye Injections

You can add general information for documenting eye injection procedures on the MICS MedAdmin OPH template. The following table describes the fields and links appearing above the Today’s Assessments panel on the MICS MedAdmin OPH template, which are used to add general information for eye injection procedures. Field / link Description Specialty By default, the Ophthalmology option is displayed as the specialty when you open the MICS MedAdmin OPH template. After you open the MICS MedAdmin OPH template, the Ophthalmology option is defaulted in the Specialty field on all medical record templates of the NextGen® Medication Inventory Control, and the Specialty field becomes read-only.
