Documenting Dispensed Medications

You can document medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the MICS Dispensing template to document billable and non-billable medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient. The medications grid at the top of the template displays all medications that are documented on the MICS Dispensing template as dispensed to the patient. The following table describes the panels on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the fields appearing above and below the panels to document general information for the dispensed medications. Panel Description Medication Dispensing You can use this panel to document medications that are dispensed to the patient when the administration is not needed. You can also use this panel to waste a medication. Ordering and Administering Immunizations

You can order vaccines, and document immunization information on the MICS Immunizations template. On the MICS Immunizations template, you can use the links and fields appearing above the Immunization Ordering panel to document the preliminary details for ordering and administering vaccines. The first three icons in the QuickPick toolbar are disabled on the MICS Immunizations template, and you can only use the remaining functions in the QuickPick toolbar. Using NextGen® Medication Inventory Control

You can use the NextGen® Medication Inventory Control medical record templates to document the administration and dispensing of medications from your configured inventory. Documenting Dispensed Medications You can document medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient on the MICS Dispensing template. General Information Ordering and Administering Immunizations You can order vaccines, and document immunization information on the MICS Immunizations template. Documenting Injections and Aspirations You can document joint injections and aspirations for a patient. Documenting Ophthalmology Injections You can document ophthalmology injection procedures for a patient on the MICS MedAdmin OPH template. Managing Medications You can document the dispensing and administration details of ordered medications on the MICS Med Management template.

Document Administered or Dispensed Medications Using Barcode

You can enter the source, lot number, unit type, expiration date, and J-Code of a medication by scanning the barcode. On the MICS Med Management template, expand the Medication Management panel. In the top grid, select the prescribed or ordered medication. The details of the medication appear in the Manage Selected Medication section. If sub-locations are turned on for the practice, select the sub-location the medication is pulled from, and select OK. Note: Sub-Location is a required field, if turned on. To add the diagnosis codes for selected medication, select diagnosis codes in the Diagnosis and Second Dx fields. Note: You can not edit the diagnosis codes that are associated with the medications in the Medications module or Office Procedures template. Select Dispensed or Administered for non-injectable or injectable medications respectively. The corresponding fields are available. Select Scan Barcode, and scan the medication bar code. Document On the Fly Medications

You can document dispensing or administration of on the fly medications that are ordered from Medications module or Office Procedures template. Before you begin You must configure the permission to add medications on the fly, for your user group in the Medication & Billing Configuration system template. On the MICS Med Management template, expand the Medication Management panel. In the top grid, select the prescribed or ordered medication. The details of the medication appear in the Manage Selected Medication section. If sub-locations are turned on for the practice, select the sub-location the medication is pulled from, and select OK. Note: Sub-Location is a required field, if turned on. To add the diagnosis codes for selected medication, select diagnosis codes in the Diagnosis and Second Dx fields. Mark Medications as Waste Using MICS Med Management

You can mark medications as waste and take them out of the inventory using the MICS Med Management template. Open the MICS Med Management template. Select the prescribed or ordered medication in the Medication Management panel. The details appear in the Manage Selected Medication section. If sub locations are enabled, select the sub location the medication is pulled from. Enter the details of the medication manually or using the bar code. If more than one unit is being dispensed or administered today, click the Rx Quantity field, and change the quantity. Select Clear All. A message appears prompting you to confirm that you want to waste this medication. Select Yes. Note: Selecting No clears the fields. The MLTS RFW picklist appears. Select the reason, and click OK. The medication details are removed, the medication is marked as wasted, and the medication is taken out of the inventory. Parent topic: Managing Medications
