Document Administered or Dispensed Medications Using Barcode

You can enter the source, lot number, unit type, expiration date, and J-Code of a medication by scanning the barcode. On the MICS Med Management template, expand the Medication Management panel. In the top grid, select the prescribed or ordered medication. The details of the medication appear in the Manage Selected Medication section. If sub-locations are turned on for the practice, select the sub-location the medication is pulled from, and select OK. Note: Sub-Location is a required field, if turned on. To add the diagnosis codes for selected medication, select diagnosis codes in the Diagnosis and Second Dx fields. Note: You can not edit the diagnosis codes that are associated with the medications in the Medications module or Office Procedures template. Select Dispensed or Administered for non-injectable or injectable medications respectively. The corresponding fields are available. Select Scan Barcode, and scan the medication bar code. Managing Medications

You can document the dispensing and administration details of ordered medications on the MICS Med Management template. You can use the MICS Med Management template to document the dispensing and administration details of medications that are ordered from the Medications module and Office Procedures core template. You can also waste medications, and keep a track of medications that are prescribed and filled in-house. Before you start documenting the details in the Medication Management panel, you must enter the specialty in the Specialty field. After you enter the specialty, the selected value is defaulted in the Specialty field on the following templates of the NextGen® Medication Inventory Control, and the Specialty field becomes read-only. Waste a Medication While Entering Information

Enter the Source, Medication, Lot Number and Quantity, using manual entry or barcode scanning. Select the Clear button to the right of the medication information fields. A window prompts you to confirm that you want to waste the medication. Select Yes. The MLT RFWpicklist opens with reasons for the waste. Select the reason for waste and click OK. The fields clear and the medication is marked as wasted and removed from inventory. To re-enter medication and administration information for the new medication lot number used, follow the steps under Documenting Dispensed Medications. Document Waste Medications

You can waste medications for any reason from the MICS MedAdmin OPH template. Wasted medications are marked as waste and removed from the inventory. Note: You must select a Sub-location, If sub-locations are turned on for your practice. Open the MICS MedAdmin OPH template, and then do one of the following: To document the right-eye-injection procedure, expand the OD Injection panel. Waste a Medication from MICS Dispensing

You can waste a medication for any reason using either of the panels on the MICS Dispensing template. Doing so records the medication as wasted and takes it out of your inventory. You can waste while entering the medication information or after it has been saved in the Medications grid at the top of the template. Select the medication from the grid above the panels. The medication information enters the Medication Dispensing panel fields. Select the Clear button to the right of the medication information.
