Medications Module

The NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medications module enables you to prescribe, print, fax, and e-prescribe (requires enrollment) patient medications. The Medications module also enables you to educate patients on medications prescribed to them, and check whether the prescribed medication has adverse interactions with other prescribed medications, existing allergies, or known diagnoses. ePrescribing Medications

The ePrescribing feature enables you to electronically prescribe and submit prescriptions directly to selected pharmacies. NextGen Healthcare has collaborated with several third-party ePrescribing providers, such as Surescripts® and MediMedia®, to integrate the ePrescribing feature. These third parties provide medication data and communicate with certified pharmacies. Note: User-defined medications are not supported with Surescripts. If you integrate the ePrescribing feature, it enables you to check a patient's eligibility, electronically communicate with a pharmacy and submit a patient's prescriptions, and to authorize or decline refill requests. In addition, the ePrescribing feature enables you to search for medications using the formulary search and check a patient's medication history. Medication Allergies Module

The Medication Allergies module helps you to identify the potential for adverse drug reactions. Use this module to enter and retrieve any currently known adverse reaction to substances that may put the patient at risk if the patient exposed to similar substances in the future. Some food allergies like red dye or shellfish can be documented in this module, but a pollen allergy such as ragweed is a medical condition and would be better documented in the Problems module. Ragweed does not present a risk for an adverse drug reaction. Open the Medication Allergies Module You can open the Medication Allergies module from Quick Buttons panel in NextGen Enterprise EHR. Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Refill Requests

When you electronically submit patient medication prescriptions to a pharmacy, you may receive a refill request from that pharmacy. These refill requests are unsolicited and until you respond to a request, you have no other interaction with the pharmacy that requested the refill. Each refill request creates a task in the Workflow module and the Manage Refills window in the Medications module. NextGen® Enterprise EHR evaluates the status of the medication in the patient's chart. If the request can be matched to an existing patient, the information appears with the option to approve or deny the request.
