Submit Electronic Prescriptions of Controlled Substances
- In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, open the Medications module.
- Select Prescribe New.
The Medication Search window opens.
- Select a controlled substance to prescribe.
- On the medication details toolbar, select Send.
Note:
- If the Prescribed Elsewhere check box is selected, the Print and Send buttons are unavailable.
- You must review the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report that is generated automatically when you prescribe a controlled substance.
The Send Prescription window displays the logo and appropriate fields for the configured ePCS authentication method.Note: If you select multiple medications, then you can send medications to multiple destinations. - From the Destination list, select a pharmacy.
You can also search for a pharmacy and then select the pharmacy.
- If the patient does not have a default or preferred pharmacy, select Patient's Primary Default Pharmacy.
- To enter default pharmacy information, select the Manage Patient Pharmacies link.
- In the Authentication Required to Sign Controlled Substances section, enter your two-factor authentication credentials, and then select Send.
Note: An application message appears if any inactive pharmacy is selected. You are prompted to select an active pharmacy before sending the prescription to the pharmacy.
