Overview on Computerized Physician Order Entry

Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) is the process of electronically capturing and transmitting medical treatment instructions, including medication, laboratory, and diagnostic orders. CPOE is a core Meaningful Use criteria objective for both hospital-based and ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) systems. As providers and clinical support staff with ordering privileges, the CPOE implementation on NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables you to search for, select, and order one or multiple laboratory, diagnostic, and immunization items in a simple workflow. You can select order items from the frequently ordered items list, favorites list, and immunization recommendations list, or directly search for order items by the test name, compendium code, or CVX and CPT® code. Based on your order selection, CPOE's built-in decision support system automatically performs various critical checks that assist you in selecting the most appropriate order item for the patient's condition. Before you begin While selecting your orders, ensure that you address all the mandatory indicators, which are denoted by . Ensure that you have completed the charge submission and payers information configurations in File Maintenance so that your practice can post charges for performing laboratory and diagnostic tests, and also automatically include Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) codes and Modifiers in the charges for diagnostic orders with Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) check. Orders Module

You can use the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module to create and manage your lab and radiology orders (also known as diagnostic imaging orders). You can perform the following tasks from the Orders module: Place and send lab and radiology orders. Complete unfinished lab or radiology orders for a patient that originate from a bulk order generated through NextGen Care® Population Management Hub. Choosing advanced imaging tests by their appropriate use criteria (AUC) scores when you place a radiology order. Set up order filters for your practice or private use. Set up schedules for future and recurring orders. Add, view, and track order comments from different areas of the Orders module. Enter test results manually or view test results received from an interface. Send lab results to NextGen® PxP Portal. To use the Orders module, you must first set up tests, SAP® Crystal Reports®, master file data, practice preferences, and user permissions for orders at your practice. For more informati

Configure Performing Entity for Practice Preferences

You can configure the Practice Preferences settings for both laboratory and radiology order items for a selected practice. Open File Maintenance. Under Master Files, select EHR, and then select Practices. The Practices List window opens. Double-click a practice name. The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. Under Preference List, select Orders Module. Select the Lab/Rad tab. To display the laboratory or radiology performing entities, select the details icon in the Selected Performing Entities section. Note: The Selected Performing Entities list is applicable to both the Preferred Performing Entity and In-House Performing Entity lists. If you change a value in Selected Performing Entities, the new value also appears in In-House Performing Entity with a notification. The Performing Entities window opens. To add and remove the laboratory and radiology performing entities, use the right and left arrow icons. Select OK. Select
