For your practice to post charges for performing tests, you must define the charge for the tests using the SIM code or SIM group code for the test. You must also set up when to post the charges for tests from each type of performing entity that you use, including any in-house testing. You must set this value only if you want to post charges for tests that are ordered. If no value is specified, "No Billing" is assumed. CAUTION: If your practice places orders through template and manages charges from template, do not use the charge posting in the Orders module as it can result in duplicate charges. In File Maintenance, select System > Practices. From the Practices List, double select the required practice. The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. From the Preference List on the left, select Orders Module. Select Lab/Rad. In the Charge Submission Defaults section, select Open Menu. Before you begin Service codes, units, and duration are configured on the Service Code Mapping panel in the BH Foundation Configuration template. If any of these fields are blank, the selected code may not be configured correctly. Your practice administrator must review the configuration. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the Configuration Guide for NextGen® Behavioral Health Suite. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and then in Patient History, select Open Templates. The Select Template window opens. On the Medical Records tab, select All. Open the billing template, expand the Charges panel, and then enter the start and end times. Note: If the end time is earlier than the start time, or the duration is more than 12 hours, a message appears to correct the entries. In Service Code, select a procedure service code. Before you begin You must have a Service Item Maintenance (SIM) code to complete this task. For more information on creating or editing SIM codes, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the File Maintenance Libraries User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. You can send ophthalmic tests to the orders module using SIM codes. To use a Service Item Code for the *Billing/Test Code in the Oph diagnostic tests data set, you have to use a miscellaneous diagnostic test code for the NextGen Compendium Test Key. The following steps outline the process to configure SIM codes successfully. This procedure provides the basic steps to create a lab order. When you create an order, you must complete all required fields that have been set up as Mandatory Data Points in File Maintenance Practice Preferences. These required fields appear in red text. If you do not fill in a required field, when you try to save your information, a message appears, prompting you to complete the field. Open the Orders module. Select the Orders Summary tab. On the Top toolbar, select New > Lab Order If an encounter with today's date exists, the Create New Lab Order window opens.
