Prescribe a New Medication
You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window.
Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists.
NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients.
- Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
- Open Medications module.
- Select Prescribe New.
The Medication Search window opens.
- Search for a medication.
Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message.
- Enter the medication's details.
- Select a SIG and enter additional medication information.
- Perform a manual drug interactions check.
- Save the prescribed medication.
- If needed, print, fax, or eRx the medication.
Note: You can select delegates to prescribe medications on the Medications tab of the Preferences window in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. The Prescribing Delegates feature is available only if you select the Allow Prescribing Delegates practice preference in File Maintenance. - State of Massachusetts Requirement for Schedule II Controlled Substances
- Enter Required Medication Information
You can enter the required information for the selected medication in Medications module. - Select a SIG
