Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Select a SIG

After you enter the required medication information, you must select a SIG. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and access the Medications module. Select a medication. Enter all required medication information. Select or build a SIG. The selected SIG is automatically assigned to the medication. If the SIG contains more characters than the display allows, the text is truncated. If you hover the cursor over the truncated text, a tooltip displays the complete SIG. If the SIG exceeds the 140-character maximum for electronic prescriptions, an alert appears next to the SIG text. Select a SIG You can change the quantity and the interval of the medication by either typing the values or using the arrows to select the appropriate values. Document a Medication

You can add medications details for the treatment of a patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On the Intake template, in the Medications panel, select Add /Update. The Medication Module window opens. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medicine from the list, and then select Select. Enter the start and stop date of the medication that the patient needs to take. Enter the quantity of the medication. To mention when and how the patient can take the medication, select Edit Sig:. Enter the number of refills allowed on the prescription of the patient. Enter the problem of the patient. If the medications are already prescribed, select the Prescribed elsewhere check box. Select Accept. Close the Medication module. In the Medications panel, to enter additional information about the medications, select the Comment link. Edit Suggested Medication

When you approve an Rx Change request in the Workflow module, you can edit a suggested medication and change the SIG, quantity, diagnosis, and refills. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and open the Workflow module. Select the Clinical Tasking tab and select an Rx Change request from the task list. The Rx Change request details and patient information appears. Under Suggested Medication, select Edit. The Edit Suggested Medication window opens. Select a medication from the Medication list. Enter the SIG information. Change the values for Quantity and Refills, select an option from the RxFill Notification list, and then enter a note for the pharmacy. To edit the dose for the medication, select Dose Range. The Pediatric Dosing Calculator window opens, where you can adjust the medication dose based on the patient's weight. View Patient Medications

Before you begin You must ensure that you have the View access right enabled in MODULES > Medical Records > Medications in System Administrator. For more information on user access rights, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. You can view a quick list of the patient's active medications and also open the Medications module to add, update, or reconcile the patient's medications. A total count of the patient's active medications appears on the Medications button on the Quick Buttons panel. Note: The icon indicates that the patient account does not have any active medications records and the No Active Medications check box in Medication Module is not selected. Select a Pediatric SIG Code

Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and open the medication module. Select a medication. Enter the required medication information. Do one of the following: Hover over Add Sig. Select Add Sig. Select the automatically populated SIG Code. The most commonly used Pediatric SIG from First Data Bank appears. Pediatric SIG Clear the Common Sigs check box to display all available SIG codes. Available SIG codes If no pediatric SIG Code for the selected medication exists, select Calculator to display the Pediatric Dosing Calculator window. Note: The pediatric calculator may be unavailable for multi-ingredient medications being prescribed to a pediatric patient. Select one or more of the following: All Once 2 Times 3 Times 4 Times Select a SIG Code or manually build a Pediatric SIG Code. The selected pediatric SIG is automatically assigned to the selected medication.
