Enter Additional Medication Information
You can set up or add additional information for the medication after you have entered the required medication information.
- Enter required medication information.
- To select the unit in the Units list, do one of the following:
- Select a unit of measure from the list.
- Enter a unit of measure up to a maximum of 32 characters.
- If the medication is an oral liquid medication, the field automatically displays Milliliter and cannot be changed.
If the Units field is left blank, the auto-population feature that is used for prescribing new medications is used for the renewal while renewing a medication. - In the Comments filed, enter non-clinical comments to the pharmacist of up to a maximum of 250 characters.
For ePrescribing, the maximum characters limit is 210 characters.Note: You can enter additional clinical instructions for the prescription in the Additional Instructions section of the Sig Builder.
- To add a medication note, do the following:
- Select the Add Note link in the Note field.
- In the Type list, select the type of medication note.
- Select OK.
- Select the Add Note link in the Note field.
- To dispense the prescribed medication as written, select the Dispense as Written check box.
The provider signature is automatically added to the prescription.
- To view the provider signature, open the Prescription Pad.
- To specify that the medication is not prescribed by you, select the Prescribed Elsewhere check box.
If you select the Prescribed Elsewhere check box, you must enter the source of prescription in the Source field.Note: When the Prescribed Elsewhere check box is selected, Start Date, Stop Date, and Diagnosis are not required. If Start Date and Stop Date exist for the medication, both dates are automatically cleared.
- To specify that the patient should take the prescribed medication as needed, select the PRN check box.
The "as needed" text appears at the end of the SIG line.
- To add a reason, do one of the following:
- Select a reason from the Reason list.
The medication reasons list is maintained in File Maintenance > Medication Reason master file.
- Enter a reason with up to a maximum of 100 characters.
The reason is added to the prescription but is not added to the Reason list.
The "for <reason>" text appears at the end of the Sig line. - Select a reason from the Reason list.
- To configure additional settings for the medication, select the Additional Prescription Detail link.
The Additional Prescription Detail window opens.
