Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Enter the medication's details. Select a SIG and enter additional medication information. Perform a manual drug interactions check. Save the prescribed med

Medication Interactions

A new medication prescribed to a patient or an existing medication being renewed can have a negative interaction with either an allergy or another medication previously prescribed. The medication can create a disease contraindication or be a duplicate of an already prescribed medication. The medication interaction process checks for all possible instances and displays a Drug Interaction window that lists all interactions, contraindications and duplications. The Drug Interaction window display of drug and allergy/drug interactions, disease contraindication, and geriatric and pediatric precautions is based on the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications and allergies. If the DUR - Display alert on User Defined Allergies (UDAs) or DUR - Display alert on User Defined Medications (UDMs) Universal Preference is enabled, you are warned that "User Defined Allergy/ Non-Screened Allergy" or "User

Drug to Allergy Interaction

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user.
