Medication Duplication

A medication prescribed to a patient could be already prescribed to the patient. If such instance occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The window lists the duplicate medication. You must acknowledge all drug interactions and select a reason for overriding the warning before you can add the medication. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. You can access medication interaction in the following ways: Automatic Interactions/Contraindications/Duplications check for new medications or medication renewals - available based on the setup of the Universal Preferences AND NextGen® Enterprise Preferences. Disease Contraindication

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with an existing patient diagnosis. If a contraindication occurs, the Drug Interaction window opens. The window specifies the medication that caused the contraindication, and information about each prescribed medication that causes a drug interaction. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all drug interactions and select a reason for overriding the warning before you can add the medication. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications. Pediatric Precautions

Pediatric Precautions occur on medications for patient who are under 18 years of age. In cases of contraindication, the DUR displays the following information: Severity level of the precaution, age range for which the precaution applies, precaution narrative where a single ingredient may have multiple precautions if other precautions exist for different age groups. Pediatric Precautions drug utilization review includes system and user-level preferences that are identical in structure to the regular DUR preferences. A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. Overview of Inactive Medication Ingredient Interaction

Inactive ingredients of a new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with the patient's allergies. If such interactions occur, you can see alerts in the Drug Interaction window. The alerts display the inactive ingredients that can cause the allergy. You must acknowledge the alerts in the Drug Interaction window, and specify the reason for overriding the alerts. Note: The inactive medication ingredient interaction check happens only when the Inactive Medication Ingredient Alert option in System Administrator is True.
