Medication Duplication

A medication prescribed to a patient could be already prescribed to the patient. If such instance occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The window lists the duplicate medication. You must acknowledge all drug interactions and select a reason for overriding the warning before you can add the medication. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. Drug to Allergy Interaction

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications or user-define allergies. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. If such interactions occur, you can see alerts in the Drug Interaction window. The alerts display the inactive ingredients that can cause the allergy. You must acknowledge the alerts in the Drug Interaction window, and specify the reason for overriding the alerts. Note: The inactive medication ingredient interaction check happens only when the Inactive Medication Ingredient Alert option in System Administrator is True. Medication Interactions

A new medication prescribed to a patient or an existing medication being renewed can have a negative interaction with either an allergy or another medication previously prescribed. The medication can create a disease contraindication or be a duplicate of an already prescribed medication. The medication interaction process checks for all possible instances and displays a Drug Interaction window that lists all interactions, contraindications and duplications. The Drug Interaction window display of drug and allergy/drug interactions, disease contraindication, and geriatric and pediatric precautions is based on the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications and allergies. If the DUR - Display alert on User Defined Allergies (UDAs) or DUR - Display alert on User Defined Medications (UDMs) Universal Preference is enabled, you are warned that "User Defined Allergy/ Non-Screened Allergy" or "User

Check Medication Allergy Interactions

You can check for interactions between a patient allergy and all of the active medications prescribed to the patient. Open the Medication Allergies module. Select an active medication allergy. Select Interactions. NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If there is an interaction, the Interaction Check DUR window opens. Interaction Check DUR Note: The display of allergy interaction is based on the display levels set for the system, a specific user, or both. Highlight the listed medication to view the summary of the existing conflict. NextGen® Enterprise lists a summary of effect and level of risk. Select OK to close the Interaction Check window.
