Review Patient Medication Allergy

In compliance with the requirements of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), NextGen® Enterprise EHR supports review of patient's medication allergies. Open the Medication Allergies module. The Medication Allergies module displays the current review status for all listed medication allergies. Select Review. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays the name of the person who reviewed all listed allergies and lists the date and time of the most current allergy review. Parent topic: Medication Allergies Module

Open the Medication Allergies Module

You can open the Medication Allergies module and acknowledge drug interactions. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window. Select or create an encounter from the Encounter History tab. To open the Medication Allergies module, select Allergies from the Quick Buttons panel. Delete Medication Allergy

Before you begin Ensure the encounter that you select to open Medication Allergies module is unlocked. If you need to delete a medication allergy assigned to a locked encounter, you must create either a custom or a new encounter and add a new allergy with the modifications to an existing allergy. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Medication Allergies module for the selected patient. Select the allergy you want to delete from the module grid and select Delete. The Delete Record window opens displaying the confirmation message. Do one of the following: You can select Delete and mark item "Inactive" if you want to make the allergy inactive. You can select Delete and mark item "Entered in error" for an allergy that is incorrectly added by provider. Select Yes to delete the allergy. Select No or close the window to cancel the deletion. View Who Changed a Medication Allergy

Each time someone creates or modifies a patient's medication allergies, the application records who made the change and when it was done. You can view who created and last modified a patient's medication allergies. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window. Select an existing encounter from the Encounter History tab or create an encounter. To open the Medication Allergies module, select Allergies from the Quick Buttons panel. The Medication Allergies module opens and displays the items that the patient is allergic to. Medication Allergies Module Select a medication allergy. Right-click the medication allergy and select Who/When.The Modification Information window displays with the name of the person who entered the allergy into the patient chart, and the name of the person who last modified the selected allergy. Acknowledge Allergy - Drug Interactions

The DUR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If any interactions are found, they appear on the Interaction Check DUR window. Note: User-defined allergies and medications are not checked for interactions. The display of allergy interactions is based on the display levels set for the system and/or a specific user. If the Show DUR across enterprise option is enabled, NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks for possible interactions with the patient's medications across all practices. CAUTION: You must review and acknowledge each interaction alert. If you select the Cancel button, your action is audited, and you must enter the reason for cancellation. Take the necessary steps to avoid an adverse reaction for the patient. Repeat the following steps for each interaction alert. Select the interaction alert. Set Allergy Interactions Display Level

You can set the allergy interactions display levels in the DUR Preferences as per your preference to see allergy interactions or inactive ingredient interactions in the Drug Interaction window. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the top toolbar, select Tools > Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. Select the Allergy Interactions Display Level tab. Select a display level. To display the inactive medication ingredient interactions along with the allergy interactions, select the Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients check box. To display the interactions based on the universal system setting, select the Use System Default check box. Note: The Use System Default option disables Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients and the display levels. Select OK. Parent topic: Drug to Allergy Interaction
