Save Prescribed Medications

After you enter the medication information, you must save the prescribed medication to the patient chart. Enter all required medication information. Enter all optional medication information. Select Accept to prescribe the medication. If the selected encounter is not set for the current date, the Prescribe Medication warning window opens. Do one of the following: Select No to prescribe the medication to the selected encounter. Select Yes to create a new encounter for the current date. If you try to close the Medications module before you save any medications, the Medication Module window opens displaying the message that save the changes. Do one of the following: Select Yes to save the changes before closing the module. Select No to exit without saving the changes. Select Cancel to cancel the exit request and continue. Prescribe a New Medication

You can prescribe a new medication to a patient from the Medication Search window. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically checks a new prescribed medication against the patient’s other prescribed medications and displays an alert if a drug interaction exists. NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open Medications module. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Search for a medication. Note: If you select a medication that is a duplicate of an active or a pending medication for the patient, or if you select a medication that has contraindications to an existing patient's diagnosis, NextGen® Enterprise EHR displays a warning message. Manage Medication Defaults Field Descriptions

You can use the following table when adding or modifying medications. Field Description Brand Name Displays the brand name of the medication. Generic Name Displays the generic name of the medication. Form Displays the form in which the medication is administered. DEA Class Displays the Drug Enforcement Agency Class that indicates the degree of potential abuse and level of Federal control over the medication. View Associated NDC Identifiers Displays the National Drug Codes for the medication. The NDC ID is a unique identifier for a medication assigned by the NDC. Do not allow eRx If the state does not allow electronic prescriptions for this medication, select this check box to prevent users from doing so. Do not allow faxing If the state does not allow faxed prescriptions for this medication, select this check box to prevent users from doing so. State DEA Class By default, this field automatically displays the same class selected in the DEA Class field. If necessary, select a different

Document Medications Module

The Medications module enables you to prescribe, print, fax, and e-prescribe (requires enrollment) patient medications. In the Interview Questions panel, click the Medications link. The Medication Module window opens. Click Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. In Find, enter the partial or full name of the medication to be prescribed to the patient and click Search. A list of medications matching the search criteria appears in the left pane. Select a medicine from the list and click Select to return to the Medications module. Enter the Sig, Quantity, Refills, and Start date from the corresponding list. If this medication is prescribed elsewhere, select the Prescribed elsewhere check box and enter the source in the Source field. Click Accept. Close Medication Module window. Enter Additional Medication Information

You can set up or add additional information for the medication after you have entered the required medication information. Enter required medication information. To select the unit in the Units list, do one of the following: Select a unit of measure from the list. Enter a unit of measure up to a maximum of 32 characters. If the medication is an oral liquid medication, the field automatically displays Milliliter and cannot be changed. Additional Medication Information If the Units field is left blank, the auto-population feature that is used for prescribing new medications is used for the renewal while renewing a medication. In the Comments filed, enter non-clinical comments to the pharmacist of up to a maximum of 250 characters. For ePrescribing, the maximum characters limit is 210 characters. Use Formulary Search

Do one of the following: Select Medication Search. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Medication Search In the Formulary field, select the formulary provider. In the Find field, enter a full or partial medication name, and then select the appropriate name from the list of matches. Medication Search window The search results display the following: OTC (Over the Counter) next to the target medication. Generic next to the parent medication when known. No value appears when a brand exists for the medication. From the list of medications in the search results, select the applicable medication dosage. Any related Formulary Note, Copay, and Coverage information appear. Any available formulary alternatives that are at a higher formulary status than the selected dosage appear in the list. Alternatives list with all strengths, not just the strength equal to the target medication. Either payer alternatives or therapeutic alternatives display, but not both. If payer alternat
