Task Types

Task types enable you to organize and manage tasks that are performed at your practice. They identify tasks according to the type of activity performed within a specific part of the application. You specify the part of the application (the Source Type) where the activity is performed. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, task types are used in the Worklog.

To set up task types, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Master Files - System list, select System or PM > Task Types.
    The Task Types window displays.
  2. Select the Open Menu button on the Task Types list and select New.

  3. Enter a description of the task in the Task Type field. This is a required field.
  4. In the Source Type field, select the area of the application that the task applies to. This is a required field. Valid source types include:
    • Account
    • Appointment
    • Appointment Request
    • Appointment Waitlist
    • Encounter
    • Chart
    • Invoice
    • Transaction
    • User
  5. Select the up and down arrows in the Task Value field to assign a value to the task. The higher the number, the more important the task is, and helps you to measure user performance. This number ranks all of the tasks by source type. So, if you have three tasks with a source type of encounter and they have task values of 1, 5, and 10, the task with a task value of 10 is more important than the tasks with values of 1 and 5.
  6. If you want to add additional information, use the Note field. The information in the Note field is not visible in NextGen® Enterprise PM.
The Practice Parameters section of the window provides practice-specific options. It includes several tabs. The Options tab enables you to enter more information for the task type. The Auto Creation and Auto Completion tabs enable you to set the tasks to automatically generate and complete.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Select the Options tab.
    • Set up actions for the task for one or more of the following:
      • Auto creation – to have the task automatically created when certain conditions are met.
      • Auto create by location – to create the task and assign it to users and groups for a specific location.
      • Auto create by rendering provider - to create task and assign it to users and groups according to the rendering provider used.
      • Auto completion – to have the task automatically complete.
      • Auto worker – to have the task automatically process at night.
