System and practice templates allow clients to configure different functions and features of the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine to meet their own preferences without having to make customizations to templates using Template Editor.
The following templates are used for configurations by all specialties:

| Framework Content | System-level template used for configuring content and navigation on the Framework Template Set and specialty template sets based on the Framework templates. | Practice Configuration | Practice-level template used for configuring practice preferences for the functioning of important features throughout the system by selecting from options currently available. You can set the pronoun to be used in concatenation for the HPI and enable gender related details to appear in the chart note. | Custom DBpicklists | System-level template used to create and maintain custom DB picklists and maintain those shipped with the system. For more information on custom DB picklists , go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the Custom DB Picklists System Template for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. |
| Custom Navigation | Practice-level template used for configuring and customizing links in the sliding left side navigation pane. |
| Manage Custom Links | Practice-level template used to create links between the wording of a displayed link and the template that it opens when it is clicked; with the Framework template set, used to create and manage links for chief complaint/reason for visit and HPI templates. |
| Office Diagnostics Setup and Management | Practice-level template used for configuring and managing routinely performed office diagnostic tests and procedures, office meds and office supplies; also known as standing/verbal in-office orders. |
For the Ophthalmology specialty, the following templates are also used for specialty-specific configurations:

| Data Sets Setup | Practice-level template used for configuring diagnostic tests specific to Ophthalmology and contact lens types. | Medication Classifications | Practice-level template used to add Ophthalmology medications to the Ophthalmology class in order to filter medications for a patient to display systemic and ophthalmic separately. | Ocular History Setup | System-level template used for configuring SNOMED codes and descriptions for diseases and procedures specific to Ophthalmology; this template opens from the Custom DB Picklists system template. |
