System and Practice Templates Used for Ophthalmology Configuration

System and practice templates allow clients to configure different functions and features of the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine to meet their own preferences without having to make customizations to templates using Template Editor. The following templates are used for configurations by all specialties: Field Description Framework Content System-level template used for configuring content and navigation on the Framework Template Set and specialty template sets based on the Framework templates. Practice Configuration Practice-level template used for configuring practice preferences for the functioning of important features throughout the system by selecting from options currently available. The following templates are used for configuring settings and content for Ophthalmology. Template Description Eye Configuration This practice template is where you configure settings specific to the Ophthalmology specialty. Ophthalmology Setup for Documenting Encounters

Before the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine for Ophthalmology can be used in a clinical setting with patients, individuals responsible for setting up and maintaining the system have to review and configure specialty-specific functionalities and content for Ophthalmology. Since Ophthalmology templates compromise of three different template sets , it is important to know which Home template to use and how to open it. For clients using the Ophthalmology Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) templates, there are additional steps for setting up a practice as an Ambulatory Surgical Center. Note: This version of NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine includes both the newer framework-based tabbed Ophthalmology templates and the templates for the 10-tab workflow used in previous versions of NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, which have been revised to meet Meaningful Use requirements. Framework Content Template

The Framework Content system template enables you to customize various elements of navigation and configure the content for certain panels at the specialty, practice, and provider levels. Though NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine contains default configurations on the Framework Content system template, you can set up configurations at the practice and provider levels. Since the application is delivered with the default setup for each specialty, it is acceptable to select only a specialty on the system template. Note: NextGen Healthcare recommends that you apply the configurations at the specialty level. You must avoid or limit the use of provider-based configurations, because it is difficult to maintain a large number of setups. This is particularly important for users with a large number of providers. However, NextGen Healthcare recommends that provider-level configurations be used for providers of specialties not represented in NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. For example, Endocrinolo

Configuration of Default Visit Specialty

The Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template is one of three configurable options that is used to determine the default visit specialty. Default Visit Specialty Each rendering provider that you set up in File Maintenance appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid. The specialty (Specialty Code 1) mapped to the rendering provider in File Maintenance is the default specialty for the provider on the application level. The mapped specialty appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid on the Framework Content system template alongside the rendering provider name. Note: Any changes made to the provider's specialty on the Framework Content system template impact the default visit specialty for the provider in runtime. To update the provider's default visit specialty at the application level, update the Specialty Code 1 field for the provider on File Maintenance. The application determines the visit specialty when a provider first time sees a patient based on the

Ophthalmic Suite Setup Templates

The NextGen® Ophthalmic Suite template set requires setup before use. Some of these configurations are required, and others are optional. You can find configurations specific to the NextGen® Ophthalmic Suite template sets on the Eye Configuration practice template. You can configure practice configurations for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine on the Practice Configuration practice template. You can use the Framework Content system template to configure content on the Ophthalmology and Optometry templates. Review and update the content before using the template set to document patient encounters.
