Documenting Dispensing and Administration Details

You can document the details required for billing dispensing and administration of patient medications in the Medication Dispensing and Administration panel on the MICS Dispensing template. Document Medication Administration for Billing You can document the medication administration details required for billing. Document Administered Medications Manually You can manually document medication administered to a patient in your practice. Document Administered Medications by Scanning the Barcode You can document the medication administered to a patient in your practice by scanning the barcode printed on the medication package. Document Using QuickPicks

You can use a QuickPick to fill in the template quickly and efficiently. Here we describe using QuickPicks that you built and saved previously (see QuickPick Toolbar). Select the Star button to access the rendering provider’s QuickPicks or the Double-Star button to access System Sets and other providers’ QuickPicks. A picklist opens with the available QuickPicks. Select a QuickPick from the list and click OK. The information populates into the fields of the panel(s) exactly as it was saved, with the Lot Number field saying Required in red. If sub-locations are enabled for your practice, click the Sub-Location field and select the sub-location from which the medication is being used. Select the Lot Number field. A picklist opens. Select the lot number. The system runs a DUR Check for the medication. The expiration date for the selected lot displays in the Exp. Date field. Repeat steps 4-5 for all medications. Waste a Medication from MICS Dispensing

You can waste a medication for any reason using either of the panels on the MICS Dispensing template. Doing so records the medication as wasted and takes it out of your inventory. You can waste while entering the medication information or after it has been saved in the Medications grid at the top of the template. Documenting Dispensed Medications

You can document medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the MICS Dispensing template to document billable and non-billable medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient. The medications grid at the top of the template displays all medications that are documented on the MICS Dispensing template as dispensed to the patient. The following table describes the panels on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the fields appearing above and below the panels to document general information for the dispensed medications. Panel Description Medication Dispensing You can use this panel to document medications that are dispensed to the patient when the administration is not needed. You can also use this panel to waste a medication. Document Dispensing Medication by Scanning Barcode

You can document medication dispensed to a patient in your practice by scanning the barcode printed on the medication package. On the MICS Dispensing template, expand the Medication Dispensing panel. Select the sub-location, if enabled. Select the Scan Barcode button. Scan the medication barcode printed on the medication package. Note: If the inventory contains multiple medications matching the scanned barcode in the inventory, a list of medications appears, where for you tocan select the requirednecessary medication. The Source, Medication, Lot Number, Unit Type, Exp. Date and CPT Code fields fill in. The system also runs a DUR Check for the medication. Select the interactions you want to acknowledge, enter the reason, and select Acknowledge. The Number Pad window opens to select quantity. Select the quantity being given in the Qty field. Managing Medications

You can document the dispensing and administration details of ordered medications on the MICS Med Management template. You can use the MICS Med Management template to document the dispensing and administration details of medications that are ordered from the Medications module and Office Procedures core template. You can also waste medications, and keep a track of medications that are prescribed and filled in-house. Before you start documenting the details in the Medication Management panel, you must enter the specialty in the Specialty field. After you enter the specialty, the selected value is defaulted in the Specialty field on the following templates of the NextGen® Medication Inventory Control, and the Specialty field becomes read-only.
