Documenting Dispensed Medications

You can document medications being dispensed, if you do not need to bill for their administration in the Medication Dispensing panel on the MICS Dispensing template. You can document up to six dispensed medications at one time. You can enter medication information: Manually Using Quickpicks Using Add Med on the Fly link By scanning the barcode Document Dispensing Medication Manually You can manually document medication dispensed to a patient in your practice. Documenting Dispensed Medications

You can document medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the MICS Dispensing template to document billable and non-billable medications that are dispensed and administered to the patient. The medications grid at the top of the template displays all medications that are documented on the MICS Dispensing template as dispensed to the patient. The following table describes the panels on the MICS Dispensing template. You can use the fields appearing above and below the panels to document general information for the dispensed medications. Panel Description Medication Dispensing You can use this panel to document medications that are dispensed to the patient when the administration is not needed. You can also use this panel to waste a medication. Document Administered Medications by Scanning the Barcode

You can document the medication administered to a patient in your practice by scanning the barcode printed on the medication package. On the MICS Dispensing template, expand the Medication Dispensing and Administration panel. Select the sub-location, if turned on. Enter the medication administration details. Medication administration details Select the Scan Barcode button. Scan the medication barcode printed on the medication package. Note: If the inventory contains multiple medications matching the scanned barcode in the inventory, a list of medications appears, where for you tocan select the requirednecessary medication. The Source, Medication, Lot Number, Unit Type, Exp. Date and CPT Code fields are automatically filled. The system also runs a DUR check for the medication. Managing Medications

You can document the dispensing and administration details of ordered medications on the MICS Med Management template. You can use the MICS Med Management template to document the dispensing and administration details of medications that are ordered from the Medications module and Office Procedures core template. You can also waste medications, and keep a track of medications that are prescribed and filled in-house. Before you start documenting the details in the Medication Management panel, you must enter the specialty in the Specialty field. After you enter the specialty, the selected value is defaulted in the Specialty field on the following templates of the NextGen® Medication Inventory Control, and the Specialty field becomes read-only. Document Medication Administration for Billing

You can document the billing details required for the administration of patient medication in the Medication Dispensing and Administration panel on the MICS Dispensing template. Note: If sub-locations are turned on for your practice, select the sub-location in the Sub-location field. On the MICS Dispensing template, expand the Medication Dispensing and Administration panel. In the Administration field, select the administration type. The type and CPT code for the administration is filled in the Administration and Admin Code fields respectively, and the Admin Location picklist opens. Select the location (body region) where the medication is administered, and select OK. If the side is configured for the selected location, then the Body Part Side picklist opens, otherwise the MLTS Modifier Mastr PL picklist opens. Document Administered Medications Manually

You can manually document medication administered to a patient in your practice. On the MICS Dispensing template, expand the Medication Dispensing and Administration panel. Select the sub-location, if turned on. Select the source in the Source field. The Medication picklist opens. Select the medication being administered in the Medication field. The MLTS Dbpl Med NDC Lot picklist opens. Select the lot number for the medication being administered in the Lot Number field. The DUR check window opens and displays all the possible interactions for a selected medicine. Select the interactions you want to acknowledge, enter the reason, and select Acknowledge. The Number Pad window opens to select quantity. Enter or select the quantity of the medication being administered, and select OK. Note: For single dose medications, if you enter a quantity lesser than the vial amount, a confirmation message appear to confirm wasting the remaining quantity. You must select Yes.
