Document Dispensing Medication by Scanning Barcode
You can document medication dispensed to a patient in your practice by scanning the barcode printed on the medication package.
- On the MICS Dispensing template, expand the Medication Dispensing panel.
 - Select the sub-location, if enabled.
 - Select the Scan Barcode button.
 - Scan the medication barcode printed on the medication package.
   Note: If the inventory contains multiple medications matching the scanned barcode in the inventory, a list of medications appears, where for you tocan select the requirednecessary medication.The Source, Medication, Lot Number, Unit Type, Exp. Date and CPT Code fields fill in. The system also runs a DUR Check for the medication.
 - Select the interactions you want to acknowledge, enter the reason, and select Acknowledge.
   The Number Pad window opens to select quantity.
 - Select the quantity being given in the Qty field.
   Note: For single dose medications, if you enter a quantity lesser than the vial amount, a confirmation message appears to confirm wasting the remaining quantity. You must select Yes.
If you are giving multiple injections to a patient from a single dose vial, document the total quantity in single row. You can enter the location, side, and number of injections in Notes field.
 - Select the administration, location, and side in the corresponding fields.
 - Enter your notes in the Notes field.
 - Select Add/Update.
