Orders Setup and Maintenance

The Orders Module supports both standard lab tests (blood work, urinalysis, etc.) and radiology tests (x-rays, MRIs, etc.). These tests must be selected and defined for your practice. You can use the tests in the NextGen® compendium; you can use the tests from your testing entities (such as Labcorp); or, you can define your own set of tests. Before setting up the NextGen Compendium or Orders Tests, to ensure the most recent compendiums are loaded, your system administrator must run the Order Management Console. The test settings, questions and other definitions for the Orders Module are set up using File Maintenance. The master files store all data needed by the Orders Module, and they must also be properly set up before you can use the Orders Module. You should define these Orders master files first: Order Tests, Order Components, Order Test Favorites, Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers. Orders Module

You can use the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module to create and manage your lab and radiology orders (also known as diagnostic imaging orders). You can perform the following tasks from the Orders module: Place and send lab and radiology orders. Complete unfinished lab or radiology orders for a patient that originate from a bulk order generated through NextGen Care® Population Management Hub. Choosing advanced imaging tests by their appropriate use criteria (AUC) scores when you place a radiology order. Set up order filters for your practice or private use. Set up schedules for future and recurring orders. Add, view, and track order comments from different areas of the Orders module. Enter test results manually or view test results received from an interface. Send lab results to NextGen® PxP Portal. Importing Compendiums or Updates with the Orders Management Console

After you have configured the initial settings for the Orders Management Console, you can load or update a test order compendium. You must import compendiums to make them available to the Orders module; the NextGen database does not contain any compendiums initially. When running the Orders Management Console, the sequence in which you process the vendors is enforced by the program. You get an error message if you try to load a vendor list before NextGen or LOINC. You can load the compendiums in the following order: NextGen LOINC Vendors (for example, Labcorp, Veredigm labs) If you have updated the NextGen compendium file, and there are no changes to the LOINC code, you update the vendor compendium. The initial load and any updates come from the Web Server URL defined in your settings. Select the Confidential Test Indicator in the NextGen Compendium in the Orders Management Console

As a provider, you may want to restrict access to certain test results. If you select the Confidential indicator for a test when it is being loaded with the NextGen compendium, you can control access to it and keep the results confidential. Open the Orders Management Console. Select NextGen compendium. Look for the Confidential column and select the check box for any test that you want confidential for your practice. Select Save to store the values and the compendium is stored. Note: Continue with loading the compendium files. Order NextGen Test Compendium Master File

The Order NextGen Test Compendium includes a list of all lab and radiology tests defined by NextGen. Before setting up NextGen Compendium, your system administrator must run the Order Management Console. The Order Management Console maps NextGen compendium codes to individual testing entity tables (such as Labcorp) that a practice uses to process tests. If your practice uses other compendiums, you must perform this process manually. By mapping the NextGen Compendium codes to Order Test codes (vendor compendiums), NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables users to order based on the NextGen compendium codes; and, therefore, ensuring the appropriate mapped vendor code is sent across the interface. This is particularly important when ordering from a template, since the templates are created using NextGen compendium codes. Update NextGen Test Code in a Compendium

You can update the NextGen Test associated with a test in a compendium. Open Orders Management Console. Open the download of a compendium. Select the down arrow next to the test code and select a code from the list of similar tests. Select Save or Save Modified. The new test code is saved. Note: In the Order Test Codes page of the Labcorp compendium, the New NextGen Test (Code) column displays the new test description with code, and the Current NextGen Test (Code) column displays the existing description with code from the NextGen database.
