Enterprise Chart and Patient Relationships

The following scenarios demonstrate how information for patient relationships is shared between practices when Enterprise Chart is enabled. For information on patient relationships with Enterprise Chart and associations in effect, see Practice Associations. Scenario Parameters: The patient, Jane Doe, is seen by two practices: Practice A, Obstetrics, and Practice B, Cardiology. Neither existing patients nor new patients are enrolled in Enterprise Chart by default. Scenario 1: Jane Doe visits Practice A and is created as a patient, with a patient chart. John Doe, Jane Doe’s husband, is created as a guarantor. The person relationship is created for John Doe and is indicated by the globe icon. John Doe is a patient with a chart in Practice B. He is not a patient at Practice A. Scenario 1 Results: The user accessing Practice A does not have John Doe as a patient and cannot look up John Doe’s chart. Managing Practice Associations

An association is a logical grouping of practices that share a business interest, activity, or purpose. To comply with HIPAA requirements, NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM offer the ability to create and use practice associations. New practices are automatically assigned to the DEFAULT association. If you do not want to share demographic and insurance information between practices, you can link the practice to a new association. After you assign the practice to another association, you cannot assign the practice back to the DEFAULT association. You can set up associations and assigned practices in System Administrator. If you have not enabled the secure lookup, you cannot view a person record created in one association in a different association. Enterprise Chart Patients

If a patient is enrolled in Enterprise Chart, you can view the patient's clinical data across all practices within your enterprise. To view patient data in Enterprise Chart, patients must be enrolled in it. When you enable Enterprise Chart, all existing patients are automatically enrolled. You also have the option to enroll all new patients by default going forward. If you do not select this option when you enable Enterprise Chart, you can later enroll patients individually. If you need to enroll all patients at one time after Enterprise Chart is on, contact NextGen Healthcare Client Support for assistance. Enterprise Chart and Interoperability

The following rules apply when using patient consent, importing Continuity of Care Documents (CCDs), and using on-demand registration in conjunction with Enterprise Chart. Note: : These functions require the installation and configuration of NextGen® Enterprise EHR Connect. For technical support, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and log a ticket in the Cases area. An enterprise-wide consent policy can be configured for each combination of enterprise and external system. Consent policies can include practice overrides that change the consent default for particular practices. You can specify consent rules for individual patients that override the enterprise or practice level settings. For more information, see Privacy Consent. Automatically Enroll Patients When Enterprise Chart Is Enabled

Open the General tab of the Enterprise Preferences window. For more information on Enterprise Preferences, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest File Maintenance Preferences Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. Select the Enterprise chart check box. A confirmation window appears, alerting you that this feature cannot be undone after it is turned on. To enable Enterprise Chart, select Yes. Note: All existing patients are automatically enrolled in Enterprise Chart when you enable it. A window appears, with the option to enroll patients by default. To enroll all new patients in the future, select Yes. The system automatically selects the Enroll Patients in Enterprise Chart check box. You can manually clear this check box later if you change your mind or made a mistake. To decline automatic enrollment of new patients, select No. You can enroll individual patients from the Add Patient Information window when you set up new patients.
