Enterprise Chart and Patient Relationships

The following scenarios demonstrate how information for patient relationships is shared between practices when Enterprise Chart is enabled.

For information on patient relationships with Enterprise Chart and associations in effect, see Practice Associations.

Scenario Parameters:

  • The patient, Jane Doe, is seen by two practices: Practice A, Obstetrics, and Practice B, Cardiology.
  • Neither existing patients nor new patients are enrolled in Enterprise Chart by default.

Scenario 1:

  • Jane Doe visits Practice A and is created as a patient, with a patient chart.
  • John Doe, Jane Doe’s husband, is created as a guarantor. The person relationship is created for John Doe and is indicated by the globe icon.
  • John Doe is a patient with a chart in Practice B. He is not a patient at Practice A.

Scenario 1 Results:

The user accessing Practice A does not have John Doe as a patient and cannot look up John Doe’s chart. The only information available for John Doe is his demographic information.

Scenario 2:
  • Jane Doe visits Practice A and a chart is created for her.
  • Jane Doe also visits Practice B, and a chart is created for her.

Scenario 2 Results:

When a user is logged on to either Practice A or Practice B, the user has access to Jane Doe’s encounters and clinical documentation from both practices because she is a patient of both practices. If the user is logged on to Practice A, all chart information from Practice B appears on the Encounter History tab of NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
