You can place orders for lab tests performed and billed in your practice or at an external facility.
- Open the Home or any other applicable template, select Orders from the upper navigation bar, and then select Lab Order.
The Lab Order template opens.
- To add the diagnoses and procedures, select Dx & Px.
Note: Selecting procedures is optional; however, you must select at least one diagnosis to order lab tests.
- Select one of the following options:
- Internal for lab tests performed and billed in your practice on the same day.
- External for lab tests performed and billed at an external facility.
- From Performing Entity, select the entity performing the lab test.
- Optional: Select the priority.
Note: By default, R - Routine appears in Priority.
- Select one of the following options to filter the test grid:
- To display your custom list of configured tests, select My Tests.
- To display all configured standard tests, select All Tests.
- To display the custom list of tests configured for another provider, select Others, and then select the provider's name.
- Search for or select the lab tests from the test grid to add to the This Order grid.
- If the caution
icon appears, select the icon to answer the ask-on-entry questions.
- Enter your comments and notes.
- Select Place Order.
The lab order is sent to the Order module, and the documents configured for lab orders in the
Document Config template are sent to the document queue.
Note: In the
Orders grid, you can view all orders placed through the
Lab Order template,
NextGen® Mobile, the Order module, and other applicable templates of
NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine from the current encounter. You can also refresh the grid by selecting

and view details of any selected order by selecting
View.
- Optional: To generate all documents from the document queue, select Lab Requisition
.
Note: To generate documents for any existing order, you can select the order from the
Orders grid, and then select
Regenerate Document 
.
