Edit Medications

You can make changes to an active medication for a patient. After you make your updates, you can save your changes to the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medications module, and send the updates to a pharmacy. Note: You can edit a controlled substances medication only if you have set up the necessary ePCS permissions. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Patient Chart view. Select the Medications section.The list of patient medications appears. Select View/Edit for the medication that you want to edit. Note: The View/Edit option is not available for a provider without ePCS setup. The RxDetails view opens. RxDetails view Note: The View PDMP link appears for CS medications. You can select the link to view the report of the medications assigned to the patient. The link is not available if you do not have the required permissions. Modify the medication details as needed. Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances

You can electronically submit a prescription for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substances (CS) by using electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (ePCS). ePCS uses the Surescripts retail networks of pharmacies and must be set up through File Maintenance and System Administrator. When you search for medications in NextGen® Mobile, the CS medications appear in red along with the DEA class codes; C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5. To control user rights for electronic prescriptions, System Administrator follows the DEA regulations to restrict eRx access rights in applications and practices. These measures rely on identity-proofing to prevent fraud. To comply with the DEA regulations, NextGen® Mobile providers can use any of the following ePCS authentication methods. View the Current Medications for a Patient

You can view the medications of a patient in the Medications module. The controlled substances medication names appear in red color. In NextGen® Mobile, select a patient.The Patient Chart view opens. If the medications are prescribed to the patient, the Medications module displays a value in parenthesis. The value indicates the number of active medications prescribed. If no value is displayed, the patient does not have active medications. The patient can have inactive or pending medications. Select the Medications section.The list of active patient medications appears. Renew Medications

In NextGen® Mobile, you can renew medications in the Patient Chart view. When renewing a medication, if your encounter is not the latest one, a message appears prompting you to associate the medication to the encounter existing for the current date. If an encounter does not exist for the current date, a message appears prompting you to create an encounter for the current date and associate the medication to the new encounter. Note: You can renew a Controlled Substances (CS) medication only if you have set up the necessary ePCS permissions. If you have the ePCS permissions but the provider relationship is not set as self in System Administrator, you can renew and save the CS medication but cannot send that medication for prescription. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Patient Chart view for the patient. Select the Medications section.The list of patient medications appears. Locate the medication to be renewed. Refill Medications

In NextGen® Mobile, the refill requests appear on the Refills view. You cannot submit refills for controlled substances medications with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) class codes as C1 and C2. Whereas C3, C4, and C5 medications can be submitted for up to five refills per transaction. Note: In NextGen® Mobile, the refills for C1 and C2 medications appear as none and the refills for C3, C4, and C5 medications are limited to five. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Hub module. Select Refill Requests.The Refills view opens listing the refill requests. Refills details view By default, the list displays the oldest to newest requests with the oldest on top of the list. Select Oldest to reverse the order. Note: The refill requests also appear as tasks in the Hub view. You can select a particular task to open the Refill Request view. In the Refills view, locate the patient and medication that you plan to refill. The selected entry must be marked with Matched Refill. Select the patient entry.T

Verifying ePrescribing Eligibility for a Patient

In NextGen® Mobile, you can verify the medication eligibility status of a patient when you are prescribing medications. For properly configured NextGen Healthcare clinics, the patient’s medication formulary eligibility status appears in Rx Eligibility on the Patient Chart view. If Rx Eligibility status appears as No eligibility status, you can select No eligibility status to check the eligibility status. NextGen® Mobile submits the medication status request to Surescripts, RxHub, or other available formulary services, and displays the eligibility results with one of the following statuses. Single - The patient has single eligibility enabling you to search only the formulary that the patient has eligibility for. The medication search field displays the Surescripts benefit source with a plan. You can select the field to search medications based on that plan.
