Renew Medications

In NextGen® Mobile, you can renew medications in the Patient Chart view. When renewing a medication, if your encounter is not the latest one, a message appears prompting you to associate the medication to the encounter existing for the current date. If an encounter does not exist for the current date, a message appears prompting you to create an encounter for the current date and associate the medication to the new encounter.
  1. In NextGen® Mobile, open the Patient Chart view for the patient.
  2. Select the Medications section.
    The list of patient medications appears.
  3. Locate the medication to be renewed.
  4. Select Renew for that medication.

  5. To change the dosage, select the medication name and dosage.
    The Select Medication view opens.
  6. Select the desired medication name and dosage.
    The new dosage appears in the Renew Medication view.
  7. In Quantity, enter the required amount of medication.
    If you select Quantity and select Calculate, the required amount of medication is automatically filled in Quantity.
  8. In Refills, select the required number of refills.
  9. To change the current Sig for medication, select the Sig field.
  10. To change the PRN selection, select the PRN check box.
    • If you select the PRN check box, you must select a reason in the Reasons field. In addition, the text as needed is appended to the current Sig.
    • If you clear the PRN check box, you must select None as a reason in the Reasons field. In addition, the text as needed is deleted from the current sig.
  11. Select the Stop Date field, and use the spinner to select a stop date.
  12. Fill the following fields.
    • Start Date – The system fills this field with today’s date. To specify a different start date, use the spinner to select a start date for the medication.
    • Duration – Use the counter to enter the duration of the medication in days.
    • Units – Use the spinner to select the dosage form for the medication.
    The Dosing field displays the recommended dosing per day based on the entered data. The Weight field displays the weight of the patient. To toggle between pounds and kilograms select Lbs or Kgs.
  13. To indicate to the pharmacy that the medication is to be dispensed exactly as written in the prescription, select the Dispense as Written check box.
  14. To select a diagnosis, select the Problem field.
  15. Select Save.
  16. If a DUR alert appears, select the Reason field, select a reason to enable the medication from the spinner, and select Allow.
    The RxReview view opens for non-CS medication approval and the RxVerification view opens for CS medication approval.

  17. Do one of the following:
    • To send a non-CS medication for renewal, select Send in Rx Review.
    • To send a CS medication for renewal, you must use any of the following authentication methods.
      • Symantec™ VIP Token
      • IdenTrust Mobile Authentication Service (MAS)
    A message appears stating that medication is successfully sent. The medication completion icon appears on the Schedule view.
  18. Select Ok.
