Complete the Prescription Details
When you prescribe medication for a patient, you can perform the following tasks on the RxDetails view.
- Calculate the quantity of medication needed based on the start date, stop date, and the Sig. The duration of the medication is calculated automatically.
- Calculate the stop date based on the quantity, start date, and the Sig.
Note: If you select a medication from a medication favorite group, the fields on RxDetails are filled with the corresponding values defined for the group in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. If needed, you can edit the fields for your patient on the RxDetails view.
- Open NextGen® Mobile.
- Select a medication for the patient.
The RxDetails view opens.
- To change the dosage, do the following:
- Select the medication name and dosage.
The Select Medicine view displays the list of available dosages.
- Select the desired dosage.
The new dosage appears on the RxDetails view.
- Select the medication name and dosage.
- In Quantity, select the field and enter the amount, or select Calculate.
Note: On selecting Calculate, NextGen® Mobile automatically calculates the quantity if you enter start date and stop date based on data in the Sig.
- To specify the number of medication refills, select Refills and select a refill amount from the Select Refills view that opens.
Note: The controlled substances (CS) medications, C1 and C2 cannot be submitted for refills, and by default, Refills display as None. For C3, C4, and C5 medications, you can select up to five refills per transaction.
- If required, modify the Sig.
Note: By default, Sig displays the primary First Databank Sig value for the current medication. If your medication is from a favorite group, the Sig value defined in NextGen® Enterprise EHR overrides the default value.
- To administer the medication, do the following:
- To select PRN, select the PRN check box.

is appended to the current Sig. - To select a reason, select Reasons, and select a reason from Select Reason.
- To select PRN, select the PRN check box.
- Fill the following fields.
- Start Date- Displays the current date by default. You can select the Start Date field, and select a different start date for the medication.
- Stop Date - Select the Stop Date field and select a stop date. If you have entered Duration and Start Date, NextGen® Mobile automatically calculates Stop Date.
- Duration - Enter the number of days that you want to prescribe the medication for. If you have entered Start Date and Stop Date, NextGen® Mobile automatically calculates the Duration.
- Units - Select the dosage form for the medication.
In Dosing, you can view the recommended dose per day based on the entered data. The Weight field displays the weight of the patient. The default unit of measurement is Lbs. To view weight in Kgs, you can select the toggle. The Height field displays the height of the patient in inches.Note: The height and weight of a patient is obtained from the patient data in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. If there is no data available in the last five encounters, the value displayed is N/A. If you select N/A, a message appears stating that the value is not collected. - To instruct pharmacy to dispense medication exactly as written in the prescription, select Dispense as Written.
- Fill the additional prescription fields.
- Select Save.
Note: NextGen® Mobile honors the DUR suppress configuration set in NextGen® Enterprise with API 6.0.0.1344 and later.If a DUR Alert view appears, select Reason to select a reason to allow the medication, and select Allow.The Pharmacy Search view opens.
