Associate a National Drug Code (NDC) with a SIM Code

You can associate a National Drug Code (NDC) to a Service Item Master (SIM) code from NextGen® Medication Inventory Control. On the Specialty Config Home system template, select Medication & Billing from the left navigation bar. The MICS Medication & Billing system template opens. Expand the Medication Information Configuration panel. Select the Add Codes or NDC to Service Item Master link. The MICS Add to Sim Library window opens. MICS Add to SIM Library template Select the search icon next to the Service Item Id field. The Service Item Master Library window opens. In the SIM Code field, enter the value to search for the required SIM code. Select the required SIM code from the grid, and then select OK. The associated values with the selected SIM codes appear in the relevant fields in the MICS Add to Sim Library window. Add SIM Codes to the SIM Library

You can add Service Item Master (SIM) codes to the SIM library in File Maintenance from NextGen® Medication Inventory Control. On the Specialty Config Home system template, select Medication & Billing from the left navigation bar. The MICS Medication & Billing system template opens. Expand the Medication Information Configuration panel. Select the Add Codes or NDC to Service Item Master link. The MICS Add to Sim Library window opens. MICS Add to SIM Library template Select Add New. Select the search icon next to the Code field. The MICS Code Master PU window opens. CPT Code search to associate SIM In the Code field, enter the value to search for the required CPT® code. Select the required CPT® code from the grid, and then select OK. The associated value with the selected CPT® appears in the relevant fields in the MICS Add to Sim Library window. Note: You can update the details as needed, except for the code and code description. Add a Billable Medication

When administered or dispensed to a patient ,billable medications are sent to the Procedure module and NextGen® Enterprise PM . To use these medications, you must build them in your National Drug Code (NDC) and Service Item Master (SIM) Library. On the Medication & Billing Configuration system template, expand the Medication Information Configuration panel. Select the Billable option below the grid. The Medication Search window opens. Enter search text for the medication in the Drug Name, CPT4, or NDC fields. Note: When you search by drug name, the list shows medications that start with the characters entered in the Drug Name field. Select Search anywhere in field check box to search with any character in the name entered. Select the medication from the results, and select OK. The Medication Search window closes, and the selected drug description gets filled in the SIM Description and Drug fields. Configuring Medication Information and Billing Rules

You can configure billing information for medications dispensed or administered and radiology tests done in your practice. You can do the following configurations on the Medication & Billing Configuration system template: Configure where the submitted charges need to be sent for each specialty. Configure the user groups for dispensing or administering on the fly medications. Configure medications as billable or non-billable in the Medication Information Configuration panel. Configure billing rules for medications as per financial class and payers in the Medication Billing Rules panel. Configure billing rules for radiology tests in the Radiology Billing Rules panel. Add a Non-Billable Medication

Non-billable medications are ones that are not sent to the Procedure module and NextGen® Enterprise PM. Adding non-billable medications into inventory allows the tracking of lot numbers of medications given to patients in case of a recall. On the Medication & Billing Configuration system template, expand the Medication Information Configuration panel. Select the Non-Billable option below the grid. From the Manufacturer field, select a manufacturer. Enter the medication name in the Drug field. From the Unit Type field, select the unit type. For example: syringe, mg, ml, and so on. from the picklist. Enter the CPT Code into the J-Code field. Enter the NDC into the NDC# field. If the medication is single dose medication, select the Single Dose check box. For a single dose medication, enter the quantity per vial in the Units/Vial field. Select Add. Updating Medication Information

You can update the manufacturer, drug description or unit type of any medication. For non-billable medications, you can also update the entries for J-Code and NDC number. Although you cannot modify the J-Code or NDC# of a billable medication (because that information pulls from the SIM library), you can change the status of a medication entry to Inactive (see Inactivate a Medication), and then re-add the medication with the new J-Code or NDC from the SIM library.
