View Patient Chart Access by Other Users

Your practice may enable you view a list of other users who are currently accessing the same patient's chart in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. To use this feature, the Warn on Multi Edit check box must be selected on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR list of Practice Preferences in File Maintenance. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the File Maintenance Preferences Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. From the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Main menu, select View and then Patient Access. The Patient Chart Access window appears. This window also appears for the other users who are viewing the patient's chart. The title bar displays the name of the selected patient. The window lists the name of each user who is accessing the chart and identifies the user's workstation, date and time of access, and phone number. After reviewing the information, select Close. Identifying Persons and Patients Identifying Persons and Patients NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM store information for both patients and non-patients. All persons and patients have a demographics record that includes non-clinical information, such as name, date of birth, address, and phone number. Additionally, all patients have a chart that includes clinical and financial information related to their encounters in the practice. When you open NextGen® Enterprise EHR or NextGen® Enterprise PM, the following visual indicators help you to easily identify and distinguish a person from a patient. A chart icon denotes a patient in the practice. When you perform a person or patient lookup by selecting a patient from the search results, the patient's chart opens. Configuring Patient Synchronization in NextGen® Enterprise PM

Patient synchronization sets a patient as active in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, NextGen® Enterprise PM, and NextGen® Optical Management. When you set a patient as active in NextGen® Optical Management, the same patient is automatically set as an active patient in NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM. For example, assume John Smith is the active patient and the chart for John Smith is currently open in NextGen® Enterprise EHR or NextGen® Optical Management. When you access NextGen® Enterprise PM, the chart for John Smith automatically opens. You can do the following when you have patient synchronization set up in user preferences: Open a patient's chart in NextGen® Enterprise PM or NextGen® Optical Management. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM by selecting PM on the main toolbar. NextGen® Enterprise PM opens and the chart for the same patient automatically opens. Turn Patient Synchronization On or Off

With patient synchronization turned on, an active patient in NextGen® Enterprise PM or NextGen® Optical Management appears in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For example, if a patient's chart is open in NextGen® Enterprise PM or NextGen® Optical Management, it automatically opens in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, Select Tools > Preferences, and then select the General tab. In Synchronization Settings, select or clear the Suspend patient synchronization checkbox. Select OK. Enable or Disable Patient Synchronization

Patient synchronization in NextGen® Enterprise EHR is enabled or disabled from the Suspend patient synchronization setting in your user preferences. From the Tools menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window appears. Select the General tab. In the Suspend patient synchronization check box, do one of the following: Clear the check box to enable patient synchronization.
