Manage Immunization Order Details

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you have completed the recommended setup and mapping instructions for custom Vaccines for Children (VFC) SIM codes in File Maintenance. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest File Maintenance Master Files Guide for NextGen® Enterprise.
  • Ensure that you have configured the registries for your practice. For more information on registries setup, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Immunization Registry Configuration Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  • Ensure that you have configured allergy check for immunization orders.
  • Ensure that you have configured drug interactions checks. For more information on medication interactions setup, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Drug Interaction and Medication Update Utility User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR and Medications and Medication Allergies Module User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
In the Immunization tab, you can view and modify your selected immunization items, associated diagnoses, and other general information, such as registry and funding source.
  1. Open CPOE.
  2. Select an immunization order item.
    The Review Allergies window opens.

  3. Review any existing common allergies.
    If CPOE detects any drug interactions, the Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR) alert appears where you can acknowledge contradictions for the vaccine and then administer the vaccine on the Administer or exclude a vaccine window.
  4. To view and modify the details of your order item, do one of the following:
    • Select the Immunization tab.
    • In the All tab, select the order item's link under Description.
  5. Under the Immunization Order(s) section, do any of the following:
    • Modify the assigned diagnosis.
    • Check the patient's vaccine administration history.
  6. Under the Immunization Details section, do any of the following:
    • Assign tasks to other users or user groups.
    • Modify the saved common allergies review information.
    • To manually recheck any drug interactions (DUR) acknowledgments, select Interactions Check. CPOE displays an alert for inactive ingredients with the associated allergic reactions and the percentage of available formulation that contains the inactive ingredients for both vial and syringe.

    • To record that you have completed verbal counseling for the vaccine, under Counseled, select the check box corresponding to the immunization item.
  7. Under the Order Details section, do any of the following:
    • Select the Registry from the list.
    • For pediatric patients, to confirm that you have completed VFC verbal counseling for the vaccine, select the VFC check box.
    • For a VFC-eligible patient's immunization, select the VFC Reason from the list.
    • Select the vaccine Funding Source that is specific to the selected registry.
    • To record that the vaccine is a verbal order, select the Verbal Order check box.
    • In the Comments box, document any specific instructions for the order.
