Medications

Use the Medications grid to view the patient's active medications. These are pulled from the Medications module. You can reconcile the medications, add new ones, or remove ones that are no longer active. To indicate that medications have been reviewed, select the Reviewed check box. The None check box is automatically selected if no medications are listed. To remove a medication, select it and click Remove. Note: When you click Remove, it instantly removes the selected medication from the grid and changes its status to inactive in the Medications module. Make certain that you have selected the medication that you intend to remove. To add or edit a medication, click Add to open the Medications module. Add a Medication

Click Add under the Medications grid. The Medications Module opens. On the Medications Module, click Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Type the name in the Find field. As you type additional letters, the search is refined to match what you have entered. Double-click on the medication to add it to the Selected Medications grid. If the drug has any counter indications or interactions with other medications, or specifics of how it can be purchased or prescribed, a dialog box opens for you to acknowledge those. Once you have added all medications, click Select. This enters the medications in the Medications Module. Enter the Sig, Quantity, Refills, and Start date from the corresponding list. If applicable, select the Prescribed elsewhere check box. Click Accept. Click the X in the upper right of the window to close the Medications Module. View Patient's Medication Allergies

Before you begin You must ensure that you have the View access right enabled in MODULES > Medical Records > Medications Allergies in System Administrator. For more information on user access rights, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. You can view a quick list of the patient's active medication allergies to identify potential adverse drug reactions. You can also open the Medication Allergies module to add or update the patient's allergies. A total count of the patient's active allergies appears on the Allergies button on the Quick Buttons panel. Note: The icon indicates that the patient account does not have any active allergies records and the No Known Allergies check box in Medication Allergies is not selected. Review Patient Medication Allergy

In compliance with the requirements of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), NextGen® Enterprise EHR supports review of patient's medication allergies. Open the Medication Allergies module. The Medication Allergies module displays the current review status for all listed medication allergies. Select Review. Open the Medication Allergies Module

You can open the Medication Allergies module and acknowledge drug interactions. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from the Patient Lookup window. Select or create an encounter from the Encounter History tab. To open the Medication Allergies module, select Allergies from the Quick Buttons panel. Resolved Allergies and No Known Allergies Indicator

The Medication Allergies module grid displays only active allergies by default. If you select the Include Resolved Allergies check box, the Medication Allergies module grid displays active and resolved allergies. The Medication Allergies module also displays the No Known Allergies check box when the selected patient has no unresolved allergies in the patient chart. When a new allergy is added, the No Known Allergies check box is automatically unavailable. When a currently active allergy is resolved and there are no other active unresolved allergies listed for the patient, the indicator is reset, and the check box is available.
