Prescribe and Send Medications to a Pharmacy

If the ambient assist note is available, you can select medications from the Suggested tab, otherwise you can select medications from the Favorites or Search tab. Open NextGen® Mobile. Open the Patient Chart view for your patient. Select Today's Visit. Note: You must select an unlocked encounter or create an encounter. In NextGen® Mobile, the Medications module is available for NextGen® Enterprise EHR 6.2021.1 and later versions. Select the open icon or View All next to Medications (Rx). In Medications, the patient's active medications appear. Note: The Prescribe New Rx option is available for default provider active encounters. Select Prescribe New Rx, and then do one of the following: To select medications from the ambient assist suggestions, select the Suggested tab, select the necessary medications, and then select Next. Electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances

You can electronically submit a prescription for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substances (CS) by using electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (ePCS). ePCS uses the Surescripts retail networks of pharmacies and must be set up through File Maintenance and System Administrator. When you search for medications in NextGen® Mobile, the CS medications appear in red along with the DEA class codes; C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5. To control user rights for electronic prescriptions, System Administrator follows the DEA regulations to restrict eRx access rights in applications and practices. These measures rely on identity-proofing to prevent fraud. To comply with the DEA regulations, NextGen® Mobile providers can use any of the following ePCS authentication methods. Prescribing Medications

You can create a medication for a patient in the Medications module in NextGen® Mobile. If you have configured the ePCS setup, you can save the Controlled Substances (CS) medication for a patient. You can prescribe CS medication only if you have set up the provider relationship as self in System Administrator. After adding a medication, you can fill the required fields for prescribing the medication and send the prescription to the pharmacy. For non-CS medications, you can verify the medication details in the Rx Review view and send the prescription. To prescribe CS medications, you must authenticate your prescription in the Rx Verification view using either of the following ePCS authentication methods. Configuring System Administrator for ePCS

For electronic Prescription of Controlled Substances (ePCS) medications in NextGen® Mobile, you must configure the following in System Administrator: In user preferences, you must set the provider relationship as self in General. In universal and user preferences, you must set up the EPCS Authentication Method for ePrescribing as VIP for Symantec VIP and IdenTrust for IdenTrust MAS. Note: The application overrides universal preferences with user preferences. In ePCS Authentication and Authorization SetUp, you must authorize ePCS registrar access. ePCS registrars give other NextGen Healthcare providers the rights to electronically send controlled substance prescriptions. Send Prescription to a Pharmacy

When adding, refilling, or renewing a medication, you are prompted to provide pharmacy information for the patient. If the patient has one or more default pharmacies defined, you can select a pharmacy from the list of available pharmacies. If the patient does not have a default pharmacy or needs to have the prescription sent to a different pharmacy, you can perform a pharmacy search. Open NextGen® Mobile. Select a medication for the patient. The RxDetails view opens. Fill the required fields, and select Save. If the DUR Alert view opens, select Reason to select a reason to allow the medication, and select Allow. DUR alert view Note: If there is no encounter created for the current date, a message appears for you to create an encounter. You can select Yes or No to proceed with the medication.
