Document Vaccine Information by Scanning the Barcode
You can document details of vaccines that need to be administered by scanning the barcode.
- Open the MICS Immunizations template.
- Enter the name of the preparer of the vaccine in the Prepared By field.
- Expand the Immunization Administration panel.
- Select one of the following options to view the required order in the Immunization Orders grid:
- Today's Orders
- Prior Pending Orders
- Select the required vaccine order from the Immunization Orders grid.
The name of the provider who ordered the vaccine appears in the Ordering Provider field at the top of the MICS Immunizations template.
The entries in the grid for vaccine name, expiry date, and CPT® code appear in the corresponding fields below the grid. The entries change as you enter additional details for the vaccine.
- Select the sub-location, if turned on.
- Select Scan Barcode.
- Scan the required medication barcode generated from the Barcode Configuration template.
Note: If the inventory contains multiple medications matching the scanned barcode in the inventory, a list of medications appears, where for you tocan select the requirednecessary medication.
- The Source, Vaccine, and Exp. Date fields are automatically filled with the values configured for the scanned barcode.
- The Diagnosis field is automatically filled with Z23 as the default diagnosis code.
- The Amount field is automatically filled with 1 as the default quantity.
- The VIS Document field is automatically filled with the name of the vaccine information sheet document configured in File Maintenance.
- The Route, Site, and Admin Code fields are automatically filled with the values configured for the scanned barcode.
- Select the lot number.
The Drug Interaction window opens for you to review and acknowledge any allergies.Note: The Drug Interaction window opens only when allergy for the patient is documented after ordering the immunization.
- Enter the quantity being given in the Amount field.
Note: For single dose medications, if you enter a quantity less than the vial amount, a confirmation message appears to confirm that you want to waste the remaining quantity. You must select Yes.
If you are giving multiple injections to a patient from a single dose vial, document the total quantity in one row. You can enter the location, side, and number of injections in the Comments field.
- Do one of the following:
- Document any additional details, and submit the charges to administer the vaccine.
- Waste the vaccine.
