Events

The following table lists all field events that can be used to trigger actions. Event availability is based on the field type. For a list of available field events and actions for each template type, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Events and Actions by Template Type Matrix for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Event Description Click A check box is selected to either select or clear it. A button, label, data entry (edit) field, active text, or active image is selected. The Click event can launch a picklist. Click/Entry An edit field is entered either by a mouse click, a Go To Field trigger, or "tabbing." Combines the functions of the Click and Entry events to provide a single trigger to launch a picklist. This event applies to edit fields only. Copy Forward Data in a field is copied forward from one encounter to another. Double Click A row in a data sheet/grid is double-clicked. Auto Check Triggers

The Auto Check Triggers function enables you to check trigger syntax for a single template or multiple templates at a time without opening them one by one. The trigger syntax check includes special characters such as ¼, ½, and ©. You can log errors to a specified file location. From the Tools menu, select Auto Check Triggers. The Auto Check Triggers window opens. In the Search box, enter the name of the trigger. You can include a wildcard symbol *. For example, you can search for Assign Field Value triggers. From the Type list, select the applicable template type: All, Case Management, Demographics, Medical Records, Practice, or System. In the Log to File box, enter the file path for the error log. The default location is the C:\root directory and TriggerValidation.txt file. Select OK. When the validation is completed, a message appears. Add a Trigger Through Edit Function

For other ways to add a trigger or copy an existing trigger, see General Trigger Setup and Copy a Trigger. Follow steps 1-3 in Change a Trigger. Select Add. Add Triggers to the Fields

After creating a custom DB picklist in the Custom DB Picklists system template, you can add triggers to a text field on any template using Template Editor. This enables you to open the newly created custom DB picklist to select a value for the field. In Template Editor , create a copy of the template to be modified and save the new copy with a unique name, as detailed below: Open Template Editor from the Application Launcher. From the File menu, click Open. The Open window appears. In the Template name field, enter the template name to be modified. Click Open. The template opens. From the File menu, click Copy Template. The Copy Template opens. In the Template name field, enter a unique name for the template. The format for naming the file is XXX_Filename, where XXX is the system's abbreviation to identify the template. Click Make Shared. Click Copy. A copy of the template opens in Template Editor. Select the desired field. Right-click and select Triggers. Review and modify the trigger
