Setting Up System, Patient, Template, and Encounter Variables

You can set up variables to hold temporary information about System, Patient, Template, and Encounter which will eliminate the need to create database fields at run time. System, Patient, Template, and Encounter Variables Variables hold the temporary information for System, Patient, Template, and Encounter variable values. Set Up Variables You can set up the variables for temporarily storing information. Update a Variable You can update the value of a variable. Remove a Variable

You can remove a variable from the System, Patient, Template or Encounter template's list if not needed. Access the Setup Variables window. Select the System, Patient, Template, or Encounter, which contains the variable you want to remove. A list containing the variable, opens. Select the variable you want to remove, from the list. Update a Variable

You can update the value of the variables added for the templates. Open the Setup Variables window. Select System, Patient, Template or Encounter. A list containing the variable, opens. Select the variable from the list you want to update. Select Update to save the changes. The updated variables appear in the selected template's list. Set Up Variables

You can add, update, or remove the variables. You can use the Script It button in the Setup Variables window to create the code snippet for the selected variable. In the Trigger Scripts, you can copy the code snippet to the clipboard and paste into a trigger script. To open the Setup Variables window, do one of the following: On the Main toolbar, select Variables. In the Trigger Info or Assign Field Value window, right-click a variable in the Variables list, and then select Setup Variables. Right-click anywhere on the body of a template and then select Variables from the shortcut menu. The Setup Variable window opens, with four color-coded tabs that list existing System (pink), Patient (green), Template (blue), and Encounter (purple) variables. From the Scope list, select System, Patient, Template, or Encounter. Note: To create a Template variable, you must open an existing template before opening the Setup Variables window. Otherwise, the Template option does not appear in Scope list.
