Insert Data Entry

When you are logged in as KBM admin in Template Editor, you can modify the properties of NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates.
  1. In Template Editor, drag Edit from the Fields toolbar to the template design area where you want to place it.
    The Insert Data Entry window opens.

  2. In Table, the template name appears if the table is saved. Do one of the following:
    • To create fields that are native to the table associated with this template, leave Table blank.
    • To share fields with another template, select that template from Table
    • To create a local template field, select local from Table.
  3. In Field, do one of the following:
    • To create a new field, enter the name in Field.

      You can use up to 30 alphanumeric characters. Do not begin the name with a number or underscore or include any spaces.

    • To share a field from another template, select that template from Table and then from Field, select the field you want to use.
  4. In Type, do one of the following:
    • Select Date to validate the date.
    • Select Text for the alphabetic characters.
    • Select Decimal for the decimal values.

      You can also set up Range and Range Prompt.

    • Select Numeric for the numeric values.

      You can enter only integers or whole numbers. NextGen Healthcare recommends that you use numeric as a standard selection for the data entry fields.

    • Select Time to measure a time span in specific units.

      You can define the time format.

    • Select Memo to store long text in the database.

      Text supports up to 10,000 characters. You can store the Memo field as two characters internally in the database. You can use a memo to assign field content to a note field, upload field content to an extended popup template, display field content on a data sheet, copy data to or from a web page using the Web XChange trigger.

  5. To change the length of the field, enter the value in Length.
    You must specify the length for a text type field. The maximum supported text is 1000 characters. You can also enter the length of a decimal type field. The maximum supported text is 10 characters. All other field types have a standard default length.
  6. To position the field on the template, enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current vertical and horizontal coordinates displayed in Position.
  7. To resize the field on the template, enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current dimensions displayed in Size.
  8. In Align, select Left, Center, or Right alignment.
  9. If required, select an existing mask from Mask.
    Edit masks define any characters that should be prefilled in the field. For example, a dash and parentheses in a phone number. Masks are represented by "#" symbols that are replaced by the entered character.
  10. To hide the field, select Hidden.
  11. Enter Comment, if any.
  12. If Type is Text or Memo and Style is Normal or Required, select Enable Spell Check.
    The Enable Spell Check is disabled for date, decimal, numeric, and time type.
  13. For a numeric or decimal type, do the following to specify the acceptable range.
    1. Enter the low and high values of the range in Range.
    2. If the value in a data entry field is out of range, you can set up a custom error message that appears when the user exits the field or tries to save the template. Enter the message you want to display in Range Prompt.
  14. To enter a Default Contents value, do one of the following:
    • Enter the contents.
    • To display the Assign Field Value window, select the ellipsis button to the right of Default Contents.
      • In the Value Calculation window, set up a formula to calculate the required value.
      • Select OK.

        The calculation appears in the Default Contents . You can enter a default value in the field from a Medical Records template.

  15. Select Script It.
    The Script Clipboard window opens with the script of the label.
  16. To copy the script to clipboard, select Copy to Clipboard.
  17. For additional tabs, do the following:
    1. To set up properties for the font name, size, style, text, color, and background colors, select the Font and Color tab.
    2. For options to copy data forward, use no zero decimals, attach audio or a picklist, or create a tooltip, select the Advanced tab.
    3. In the Field Attributes tab, the added attribute and values from the Attribute Setup appears.
      • In Values, you can select the values from the list for the respective attributes.
      • Boolean type attributes have True or False option and numeric type attribute have integers from the minimum value to maximum value defined for the attribute.
  18. After entering field properties, select OK and then select Save.
