Insert an Active Text Field
The maximum data size for a template is 7940 characters. The total data size is the sum of the length of all data entry fields. A application message appears when you try to add or modify fields and you have reached the maximum data size.
- Drag the Active Text icon from the Fields toolbar to the template design area where you want to place it.
The Insert Active Text window opens.
- Define the table.
- If the template is saved, the Table text box automatically displays the template name.
- If the template is not saved and no table is associated with it in the database yet, leave the table blank to create fields that are native to the table associated with this template when it is saved.
- If you want to share the fields with another template, select that template from the Table list.
- If you want to include read-only fields from a particular table, select that table from the Table list.
- Enter the field name.
- If you are creating a new field, enter the name in the Field text box using up to 30 alphanumeric characters. Do not begin the name with a number or underscore or include any spaces; use an underscore to indicate a space.
- To share a field from another template, first select that template from the Table list. Then from the Field list, select the field you want to use from that template.
- You can select a number of fields from the person table, including the following options:
- Display the prefix_id and suffix_id before or after a name, respectively. If necessary, these fields can be populated through a picklist on a template at run time, instead of from NextGen® Enterprise PM.
- Select Read-Only fields including: cause_of_death, cause_of_death_code, church_id, language_id, race_id, religion_id, and primarycare_prov_id.
- From the patient_encounter table, you can add a convert-in-progress indicator field to indicate whether an encounter is ready to be converted from In Progress to Unbilled.
- In the Caption box, enter the text you want to use.
Note: Instead of entering the caption here, you can use in-place caption editing to enter the caption directly in the field after you have created it.
The Type and Length for the active text field are set by default.
- Do the following:
- To reposition the field on the template, enter the appropriate numeric values to replace the current vertical and horizontal coordinates displayed in the Position boxes.
- To set the size of the active text field manually, clear the Auto Size checkbox, and enter the dimensions in the Size boxes.
The Auto Size checkbox is selected by default to automatically set the size. The size of the active text cannot be changed.
- To display active text without underlining, select the Underline checkbox to clear the default setting.
- To hide the active text field when the template is opened, select the Hidden checkbox.
- In the Comment box, enter any comments you want to add.
- Select the applicable checkbox for the active text Mode.
- Two-State. Indicates whether active text is selected or not. Only the Text type is allowed in Two-state Mode.
- Multi-State. Indicates multiple entries, for example, yes, no, and no selection. Allows Text, Numeric, and Decimal types.
- Select Script.
The Script Clipboard window opens with the script of the label.
To copy the script to clipboard, select Copy to Clipboard.
- Do the following for the additional tabs:
- To set up font and color settings for the active text, select the Values tab.
- For options to copy data forward, set up a picklist, or create a tooltip, select the Advanced tab.
- Select OK and save your template.
