Before you begin
- The provider enrolls to the Rx Fill and Rx Fill Indicator Change Retail Service Level in File Maintenance indicating that the provider has agreed to receive RxFill notifications. The provider should add RxFill Status to their display Grid Preferences to see RxFill statuses in the Medication module.
Note: RxFill notifications should be disabled for inactive medications. If the RxFill notification has not been received, then the RxFill Status is blank instead of showing No Status. The provider has the option to unenroll from the RxFill Service Level in File Maintenance
- The pharmacy sending the RxFill notifications enrolls to the Rx Fill and Rx Fill Indicator Change Retail Service Level in File Maintenance.
- The latest version of NextGen® Communication Services supporting RxFill is installed.
The provider's high level workflow to send RxFill notifications received from the pharmacy to get only the relevant notifications needed for the patient. The RxFill transaction message is updated to support the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) SCRIPT v2017071 Standards. As an enrolled provider, you can select to get only the relevant RxFill notifications from the pharmacy for a patient.
- Access the Medication module.
- Prescribe a medication.
- Enter the Quantity of the medication.
- Select the type of RxFill notifications in the Additional Prescription window within the Medications module based on the selected medication.
- Select Save.
- Select the medication and select the RxFill History link.
The RxFill History is updated to display RxFill status types.
- Verify the RxFill History details.
- Select Send in the Medication module to refill or give a new prescription to a pharmacy that is configured to send RxFill messages.
The pharmacy processes the prescription. The patient’s prescription is dispensed, partially dispensed, transferred or not dispensed (returned to stock).
Note: The status of the prescription could change frequently based on the dispense type.
Pharmacy sends the RxFill message type to NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
The provider can view the RxFill message type in the RxFill Status column according to the dispense status of a prescription.
