Order NextGen Test Compendium Master File

The Order NextGen Test Compendium includes a list of all lab and radiology tests defined by NextGen. Before setting up NextGen Compendium, your system administrator must run the Order Management Console. The Order Management Console maps NextGen compendium codes to individual testing entity tables (such as Labcorp) that a practice uses to process tests. If your practice uses other compendiums, you must perform this process manually. By mapping the NextGen Compendium codes to Order Test codes (vendor compendiums), NextGen® Enterprise EHR enables users to order based on the NextGen compendium codes; and, therefore, ensuring the appropriate mapped vendor code is sent across the interface. This is particularly important when ordering from a template, since the templates are created using NextGen compendium codes. Create a Lab Order Workflow

This procedure provides the basic steps to create a lab order. When you create an order, you must complete all required fields that have been set up as Mandatory Data Points in File Maintenance Practice Preferences. These required fields appear in red text. If you do not fill in a required field, when you try to save your information, a message appears, prompting you to complete the field. Open the Orders module. Select the Orders Summary tab. On the Top toolbar, select New > Lab Order If an encounter with today's date exists, the Create New Lab Order window opens. Setting Up Test Order Favorites

You can create any number of Order Test Favorites groups for use within your Enterprise. When you create a favorites group, you can create it for the NextGen compendium or for the other entity compendiums (such as Labcorp, Orchard, and others). By setting up the NextGen compendium favorites it can save time if multiple systems are used within the NextGen application. The NextGen® Enterprise EHR has standard compendiums available for NextGen, Labcorp and LOINC that can be installed using the Orders Management Console. If your practice deals with labs that have not been mapped to the NextGen compendium, once it is installed, you can use File Maintenance to map the NextGen tests to your tests. Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR, version 5.7 and later does not come with default compendiums loaded. Medical Necessity Setup

You must set up the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check to determine if Medicare will pay for a test when selecting a diagnosis for an order and run it when you place a test order. If Medicare or other insurance does not cover the costs of the test, you can print an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) and record the patients' decision about how to handle test codes. If an order does not contain Medicare or other insurance then you can't run NextGen® Medical Necessity Check as this follows the Medicare guidelines. Note: You need to obtain a license to run NextGen® Medical Necessity Check. To set up the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check locations, do the following: Access and download the NextGen® Medical Necessity Check update package from the NextGen Healthcare Success Community. This package populates the Locations (and associated data) in the Orders Module tab. Set up the appropriate NextGen® Medical Necessity Check encounter level insurance for the appropriate location.
