Before you begin
- Ensure that you have configured the common orders display period.
- Ensure that you have loaded and updated the laboratory and diagnostic test compendiums in the NextGen database using the Orders Management Console.
Note: The most-frequently ordered items that are mapped to the NextGen compendium appear in the
COMMON ORDERS list. For more information on updating the NextGen compendium list, go to

You can select laboratory, diagnostic, and immunization order items from the COMMON ORDERS list, which displays a maximum of the twenty most-frequently ordered items at the user and practice levels.
- Open CPOE.
- Select the Order Search Bar.
The COMMON ORDERS list appears.
- To filter the COMMON ORDERS list by order type, select one of the following filter options.
- All
- Laboratory
- Diagnostic
- Immunization
Note: The default order-type filter is All.
- Select the performing entities for Laboratory Performing Entity and Diagnostic Performing Entity from the Performing Entity list.
- Select an order item.
The order details appear. For more information on order details, see
Managing Order Details.
Note: To remove an item from the COMMON ORDERS list, you can select Clear.
