Scenario where Person Only Exists in the External System

In this scenario, only the external system contains the person's demographic information and there is no difference between trusted and untrusted environments. When a user enters search criteria in the Person/Patient Lookup window, the EMPI QIS first searches all records available in the NextGen database and then searches all of the records available in the external system. No results are found in the NextGen database, but the query of the external system automatically returns a result. To differentiate the results of the user search in the Person/Patient Lookup window, the person record returned from the external system displays a different icon than a person stored in the NextGen database. When the user selects this person from the Person/Patient Lookup window, the person is automatically added to the NextGen database and their MPI # is set. Creating Patient Charts

An individual added to NextGen® Enterprise PM without a chart is known as a person. A person may be someone with an existing appointment, an account guarantor, insurance subscriber, or an emergency contact. A person is allocated a unique identifier and stored in the Master Person Index (MPI) which is shared by all individuals within an enterprise system. When you create a chart for a person in a practice, the person qualifies as a patient. Only the practice that creates the patient chart, has access to it. A patient associated with multiple practices has a single demographic record that can be shared with all other practices using MPI. Search for Patients in NextGen® Enterprise PM

In NextGen® Enterprise PM, do one of the following to open the Patient Lookup window: On the main toolbar, select Chart. From the Tasks menu, select Lookup > Charts. Patient Lookup Window Enter the details in the Search Criteria fields to find the desired person or patient. You can use multiple parameters. For example, you can enter part of the last and first names, and birth date. Note: Fields with the Lightning Bolt indicator are for direct match searches and cannot be used with other search criteria. Select Find.
