Lab Order Quick Reference
The following table provides a quick reference for common lab order and result tasks and where to find more information.

Define a test compendium | You can load lab tests into NextGen® Enterprise EHR using the Orders Management Console (OMC). The following compendiums are available:

Order a lab test | You can place lab test orders within the Orders module using the Create New Lab Order for Patient Name window. Lab tests can also be placed through a NextGen® Enterprise EHR template or from a bulk order generated through NextGen Care® Population Management Hub. | |
Complete an unfinished lab order that was started from the Orders Search bar | You can complete unfinished orders from the Orders Summary tab in the Orders module. | Using the Orders Summary Tab |
View and complete an unfinished lab order that was part of a bulk order from NextGen Care® Population Management Hub | You can view unfinished orders for a patient from the Orders Summary tab in the Orders module. You can view unfinished orders for all patients across the practice using the Unfinished filter in the Orders Management order control in a custom practice template. Receive test results | You can enter test results in the Orders module though an interface or you can enter test results manually. | Entering Order Test Results Manually |
Map test master files | Before you can add results to a test order, you must map a value from the NextGen® Enterprise compendium to each test order that your practice uses. Delete existing lab tests | You can delete cancelled lab tests without results from NextGen® Enterprise EHR. | |
Commit test results | Typically, when a result is received across an interface but the system cannot automatically match it to the patient or order in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, it is placed in the NextGen® Clinical Message Manager. From there, you can review and confirm patient tests and results before committing them to the patient's chart.
