Managing Groups and Options

To meet the new the HTI-1 requirements the guidelines must be initiated based on the reason types such as allergy or intolerance, implantable device, laboratory results, medication, procedure, SNOMED problem, and vital signs. To automatically apply the care guideline, you must define a care guideline for the condition or disease by documenting the details using the links provided for reason types.

The Auto Update feature eliminates the need to manually re-apply a guideline to patients whenever a change or update is made to the guideline condition or reason and its configuration details. The Auto Update check box is optional. When this check box is selected, guidelines are automatically updated with new guideline information, such as new tests added to the guideline, and applied to eligible patients.

The Enable Document Types to satisfy guidelines checkbox enables the Document Types / Codifications section in the Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions panel. This allows you to link the selected guidelines or tests to the scanned document types.

The Performance Improvements checkbox enhances the care guidelines stored procedure functionality. The NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically runs the care guideline stored procedure for the first time on the impacted templates that are opened as the Performance Improvements checkbox is selected by default. To manually run the care guideline stored procedure, you can select the refresh button that appears next to the Care Guidelines link. The badge count appears next to the Care Guideline link when you save the changes.

The Recommended Care link opens the Recommended Care practice template. You can set up recommended care items on the Recommended Care practice template.

To opt out of the following recommended care items associated with guidelines, you can select one or both check boxes:
  • The Opt out of Recommended Care (non-meds) checkbox opts out the non-medication recommended care items. This action enables you to follow only medication related guideline item.
  • The Opt out of Recommended Care (meds) checkbox opts out the medication recommended care items. This action enables you to follow non-medication guideline items.

The Vital Signs link opens the Vital Signs Configuration practice template. You can configure the vital signs for a patient on the Vital Signs Configuration practice template.

Medication Classes are maintained on the Medication Classifications system template. Medication Classes are used by Care Guidelines to determine if a specific medication class has been prescribed to a patient.

Diagnosis Groups are configured on the Dx Groups Reference Systems practice template. Diagnosis groups used by care guidelines use two reference systems, clinical guidelines conditions and protocols. These reference systems are maintained on the Dx Groups Reference Systems system template.

You can create guidelines using the links to reason types that are Allergy, Implantable Device, Lab, Procedure, and SNOMED Problem.
