Automatically Update and Modifying a Guideline

You can update or modify a guideline for a patient on the Care Guideline Setup template.

The Auto Update feature eliminates the need to manually re-apply a guideline to patients whenever a change or update is made to the guideline condition or reason and its configuration details. This includes changes made to the guideline gender, interval, start age, stop age, diagnosis group, and high risk settings. The Auto Update check box is optional.

When the Auto Update check box is selected, guidelines are automatically updated with new guideline information, such as new tests added to the guideline, and applied to eligible patients. For patients who currently have that guideline active, NextGen® Enterprise EHR is updated to the new values set on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template including recalculating due dates and other settings.

Guidelines and guideline items are not automatically removed from patients who already have the guideline applied. For example, if a test is removed from a guideline or the gender of a test is changed so that it would no longer apply to a patient, the test is not removed from patients who already had the guideline applied when it included the test or their gender. In this case, you must manually re-apply the changed guideline to the patient or manually remove the test if they want the change for the patient.

With patients for whom an applied guideline is customized, if the guideline is updated, the updated guideline does not automatically be applied to the patient. In this case, you must manually re-apply the changed guideline to the patient, if they want the changes to apply to the patient.
