Create Guidelines

You can create a guideline for a patient using the Define Guidelines Reasons & Auto Application on the Care Guideline Setup template.

1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
2. From File, select System \ Practice Template.
   The Select Template window opens.
3. On the Practice tab, select the All option.
4. Select Care Guideline Setup, and then select OK.
   The Care Guideline Setup practice template opens.
5. Expand the Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application panel, in Guideline Condition/Reason, enter a name for the condition or reason for the guideline.
6. In the Reason Type field, select any from the list.
7. In the Birth Sex field, select any from the list.
   Note: F, M, and O apply the guideline only to female, male, and both female and male patients, respectively.
8. In Start age, enter the patient's age when the guideline must become applicable and followed.
   If the patient is younger than the start age, the guideline displays the due date, even for a future date. If you do not enter the start age, the guideline becomes applicable to the patient regardless of age.
9. In Stop age, enter the age when the guideline must end and stop being followed.
   If the patient is older than the stop age, the guideline does not appear as due. If you do not enter the stop age, the guideline continues to be applicable to the patient regardless of age.
10. Enter a diagnosis group associated with the guideline.
    Note: All diagnosis codes defined within the selected group are associated with the guideline.
11. Select the Auto-Apply checkbox to automatically apply the guideline to all patients meeting the criteria for Gender, Start age, Stop age, and Diagnosis group.
12. Select Add.
    The guideline appears in the grid.

    

    Note: If you attempt to add a guideline condition or reason that duplicates one that already exists, an application message appears. You can select OK and change the value for guideline condition or reason and try to add it again.
13. To create a guideline using an existing guideline as the base guideline, you can select the guideline listed in the data grid. Details listed in the grid for the guideline fill in the fields. You can modify these values by following the prior steps. You must change the value (name of the condition or reason) displayed in the Guideline Condition/Reason field before you can add the guideline.
