Submit E&M Code Under 97 Coding Guidelines

Before you begin You must configure the 97 Coding Guidelines selected on the Practice Configuration practice template. For more information on the 97 Coding Guidelines, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the E&M Coding User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. Also, you must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessments panel to submit an E&M code. Open the Finalize template and then expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. Enter a start and end time. The duration calculates and displays in the corresponding field. When you enter a start and end time initially, the Time visit time (minutes) field updates with the same value. If you then edit the Time visit time (minutes) value and manually select an E&M code, the updated time overrides the original time entered. Submit E&M Codes per the 2021 Coding Guidelines

You can submit a calculated or selected Evaluation and Management (E&M) code to the Superbill using the 2021 Coding Guidelines. Before you begin The date of the encounter must be on or after the effective start date entered for the 2021 Coding Guidelines on the Practice Configuration template. The visit type must be one of the visit types impacted by the 2021 guidelines. For more information on the 2021 Coding Guidelines, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the E&M Coding User Guide forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine. Also, you must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessment panel to be able to submit an Evaluation and Management (E&M) code. For guidance on how to use the 2021 E&M Coding Guidelines based on Medical Decision Making (MDM) level and time, you can use the information Info Icon icon. For guidance on the level of complexity and risks involved in MDM, you can use the View MDM Guidelines link. From an encounter, select the Templates Template Icon icon.

Finalize (BH) Panels

The following table provides a description of the panels available on the Finalize (BH) template. The following table provides a description of the panels available on the Finalize (BH) template. Not all panels are used for NextGen® Behavioral Health Suite workflows and some require additional configuration. Panels Description General Displays the patient type (established or new patient) and contact type collected from either the Psych Eval (BH) or Psych Prog Note (BH) template and the PE Type. The values can be edited on this template. It also provides a link to enter information regarding the E&M Guidelines configured for the visit. Today's Assessment Displays the assessment/diagnosis information documented from the Psych Eval (BH) or Psych Prog Note (BH) template. You can view, add, edit, or remove diagnoses from the Today’s Assessment panel. Provider Sign Off Enables you to submit a task to a Supervising provider and to record their review via checkbox. Add Visit Code Modifiers

You can add or replace visit code modifiers. After you have calculated or selected a visit code on the Finalize (BH) template, the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine may add modifiers to the visit code based on coding rules. You can also manually add up to two modifiers for each visit code and edit the modifiers. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For a patient record, open a new encounter. Open the Finalize (BH) template. Expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. To add a modifier to a visit code, select Modifier(s) under the corresponding visit code, and then select a code from the list. To replace the modifier of a visit code, select a modifier, and then select another modifier from the list. Manage Visit Code Modifiers for Virtual Visit Billing

You can add or edit the visit code modifiers for virtual visit billing. After you have selected a visit code in the Virtual Visit Billing panel of the Finalize template, modifier codes are added to the visit code based on the billing rules configured using Virtual Visit Payer Configuration. You can edit the modifier codes that appear and add modifier codes. You can use up to two modifier codes for each visit code. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Finalize template. Expand the Virtual Visit Billing panel. To add a modifier, select the blank modifier field below the visit code, select the modifier and then select OK. The selected modifier is added to the modifier field. To edit a modifier, select the modifier field below the visit code, select the modifier, and select OK. Finalize Documentation

The Finalize (BH) template enables you to view today's assessments, today's orders, enter counseling and/or interpreter information, submit E&M codes, or select the No Billing for Service checkbox. You use the Finalize (BH) template for billing of a psychiatric evaluation. You access the Finalize (BH) template by selecting EM Coding from the Psych Eval (BH) or Psych Prog Note (BH) template. From the Finalize (BH) template, you can view today's assessments, today's orders, enter counseling and interpreter detail information, submit E&M codes, or select the No Billing for Service checkbox. Not all the panels are required for NextGen® Behavioral Health Suite workflows. Several panels do require additional configuration. Note: If you need to make changes to the Specialty or Visit Type on the Finalize (BH) template, you must close the Finalize (BH) template and reopen to update the template.
